This is a discussion on Banged up knee :( within the Aches, Pains, and Injuries forums, part of the The Clinic category; I hurt my knee too about a month ago. Did it look anything like this?...

..he adjusted a bruise/swelling?
And chiropractic somehow gets even dumber.
(And, yes, I've seen a chiropractor.)
Actually, he's a chiropractor for the Chicago Blackhawks. My knee cap was out of place after the puck hit it, so yes, he adjusted it. Then, I still couldn't skate, and he did some on ice acupuncture pressure points, which I thought was total BS, until my knee went from intense sharp pain, to numb for the next 3 hours after he did it.
Chiropractors are good, if you get the right ones. The bad ones (which are the majority of them) give that profession a very bad name. Most Chiropractors mess you up even more, for the repeat business. I've been adjusted on more than one occasion the day of games going from doubting I'll be able to play, to being at 100% after my adjustment. It's not a dumb profession. It works well. I'm sorry if you haven't had a good experience with a Chiropractor in the past, because you are missing out for sure.
Oooof. That sounds painful. And this is why I'm ordering knee/thigh guards to wear when I get back on the ice, because I do NOT want to go through this again. And no, my knee didn't look anything like that actually. There was very little swelling, I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the fact that I iced it immediately, and continually on and off throughout the day, or maybe fractured kneecaps don't swell much... not sure. I did have some gnarly colors in the bruise from the impact though.
Just an update... PT is going great, it's amazing how much difference there is even just every few days. I have an appointment with my ortho a week from tomorrow, which will be 1 month from getting the brace off. My PT thinks I can start practicing as long as the doc says it's ok. I can't WAIT. If the doc gives me the green light, I'm going to a clinic on the 20th. I'll be sure not to overdo it- I'm even going to talk to the guy who runs it beforehand and let him know I'm recovering from an injury. Man I can't wait to get out there again. It's finally starting to seem real!
I have a patient now who totally eff'd up their kneecap to the point where the surgeon had to put pins and wiring in the cap itself. She's been in PT for over a year today. She can jog, but most def not do any hardcore activities. Thank God your fracture is already healed!!! It could have been a lot worse for sure!
If it's already healed, you should be able to do some harder workouts. Lets hope that the PT is aggressive but within your limits. You should be pretty much pain-free with all the exercises they give you, and if something seems easy, ASK THEM FOR SOMETHING HARDER!
Just a very late update... I got back on the ice in late March and haven't looked back since. In fact my women's team traveled for tournaments all summer, and we placed 2nd in one (USA Hockey Rec Nationals!), and won two others. What an awesome feeling. Ironically, the only time my knee bothers me is when I wear heels a few days in a row at work. (I absolutely HATE wearing shoes, so most of the time I'm walking around without them, but if big-wigs are around, I have to keep them on). Heels are murder on your knees, so I haven't been wearing them as much. Anyway, I have all my strength back and am back to normal on the ice. It took a little while to get my timing back, and that was extremely frustrating, as I knew what I was supposed to be doing, but my body just didn't do it quick enough. Whew. I know it was only 2 months but being off the ice was AWFUL. A teammate was injured at the same time, so at least I had a partner on the IR, and we actually have ended up becoming pretty close friends.
