We played our first hockey game of the 2011/2012 Winter ASHL Season. We ended up losing 4-3 in OT, and it was a frustrating loss for me because I felt I played great. I may several insane saves that I had no business making. The goals that went in were tough to prevent. First goal one of my defensemen decides to crouch down in a ball in front of the player as he's winding up. This shields the puck from view, and the guy sees this and snaps the puck around my dman, I didn't see it until it was on it's way. It tips the bottom of my blocker, and snuck by me. Second goal their player was in the corner with the puck, seeing this I was ready to slide out from my VH to a butterfly block to the player directly in front of the net. As the pass is made I'm moving to my block position, and the puck hits my Dman's skate, and goes between my legs. I could feel it rolling down the channel between my pads, and I tried to squeeze my feet together and it popped out and in. I made the mistake of not throwing my glove back there and covering it before it trickled out. Third goal, penalty shot; the player came in so insanely slow, I didn't know what to do and snapped it 5 hole without even showing his blade. I had no idea he was going to shoot. Lastly in OT, with .5 seconds left 2 guys in front of the net swinging and whacking at a loose puck push it past me as the buzzer sounds. Ref says good goal.

There was one save that I made in the second period that I wish I got on film. I was in a butterfly block on my right side of the net, there was a bit of a scramble, and the puck made it out to the far left side, to a wide open player. He see a wide open cage. Usually at this point I've almost given up because it's such an impossible thing to stop, but for some reason I decided to fall backwards while twisting my body. I reached out my hand, about Mid net level, and stop the puck. It was probably the most "Tim Thomas" style save I've ever made, boy did that feel good.

Not to mention several other good stops, a breakaway stop on their best player, left leg pad save as he thought he had me and shot low glove side. I just extended perfectly, and my team went nuts. (I'm usually not so hot on breakways).

Well, next game is Tuesday 9:45pm. Yikes.

I hate those losses where you play out of your mind but still let in 1 too many. But like you said, most of those weren't preventable, and **** happens.

I love those reach across and rob the shooter saves. I've actually made 2 in my short career - both last ditch attempts to keep it out. Never give up right?

We've all been there! Overall, the best game I've ever played ended up in a 5-1 loss. I was on fire, but my team wasn't much help.
