Finally we bump the slump, we win our first game in the new division. After starting out 13 wins in a row, and since being on a slide of 4 losses and 2 OTLs. We finally pull our game together in an afternoon game on a Saturday.
The team we were playing was a little short benched, they had 10 guys, 2 full lines. We had 11. I think the game being so early gave us a bit of an edge. Our overall team average age is quite high, so those late games of teams full of guys in their early 20s usually has us worn out.
I let in 2 goals, one was right at the beginning of the game. There was a point shot, hit me high in the chest and I didn't get my glove up to cradle the rebound. It bounced to my left, and right on a guys stick just above the crease. My defenseman was looking at the point shot, and not focusing on his man. He just popped it in the empty cage.
Second goal was during a PK, they had one forward come down the left wing, and come in short. I was in the VH, and he shot it. It felt like it was stuck in between my equipment. Except no one communicated that it had bounced out instantly to the slot. So here I was holding on to it so it wouldn't trickle in, and it wasn't even there. All it would have taken was one of my defenseman to yell, "LOOSE" and I would have known. This after me reminding them at the beginning of the game to let me know if it goes loose.
I made a few good saves, and kept our boys in the game. We killed a 5 on 3, and I took a high shot that was going in top corner. The way I raised my arm was funny. I lifted it up and sort of had the under part of my arm exposed to the puck. It hit me in back of my forearm, and it killed. I couldn't hold my stick properly for about 10 minutes. Still managed to make the saves needed at that point.
Overall it was a good team game, and we all felt pretty good with the win.
