Well tomorrow my 99 AAA team starts our OMHA Championship. I posted earlier about how I was trying to get our goalies ready. Here is my update.
Saturday AM - @ my Training Centre.
Focused on some directional cutting, so they moved in straight lines as they repositioned on their feet. All my drills were single shots while I really stressed puck tracking as well as rebound tracking and rebound re-positioning. I also used "White pucks" to make the rebound tracking much tougher. I really love doing drills with single shots while preparing for playoffs, it maximizes the focus to detail and forces the goaltenders to play-out many situations.
Sunday PM - @ my Training Centre.
Worked mostly on edge work. A lot of changing directions while on feet as well as changing directions with "Partial Recoveries". I wanted to discuss possible PP setups we would be facing this weekend and the puck movement these set-ups will use. I supported a lot of these drills with video and discussed what I wanted my goalies to look for when recognizing the type of Power Play Set-ups they are facing.
Monday PM - @ my Training Centre
Had a stretching session with my two goalies. Really focusing on hip flexibility and improving range of motion. Also, talked about expectations and how they should only worrying about "control what you can control". Was really trying to avoid "Over-Preparing" and reminded them to prepare like normally do.
Tuesday - OFF DAY
Wednesday PM - @ Team Practice
Worked a lot of traffic drills. Tracking Pre Shot, Through Shot and Post Shot. Controlling Distance and Balance. Reminding them how important setting their feet is.
Throughout the week both goalies performed well. I haven’t had any issues with either of them all year. Both have a tremendous work ethic and focus level. Our goaltending has been solid all year and I would expect the same this weekend.
