Where to start? Well...I'm a 31 year old male living out here in Vernon, BC. I've never played hockey before growing up, aside from gym class and the occasional street hockey with friends. But I've always loved the goalie position and thought it was cool, especially how the gear looked. Unfortunately, I could never find the time or money to really get into game. It's always been about focusing on school/university or my job or all the other usual things life throws at you.

Jump to 2010. ...

So from July of this year to middle of October, all my game experience was based on pickup ball hockey games. This mostly took place in an arena setting, but I also play in a parking lot with a bunch of guys on Sundays. Pickup games were nice and relaxed (aside from the occasional player who took things far to seriously and had rage issues), and there wasn't really much for strategy. A lot of the times it was launching the ball from across the rink, shooting whenever and wherever, lots of breakaways, ...

The Captain of the Grizzlies and the team manager have contacted me again to tell me they have decided to move the team up into the next division, allowing me a spot. And, they're going to subsidize my league fee! Pretty sweet. They have to get a consensus from the other players, but it looks like it's a go. We'll see...

I'm a bit bummed today, to say the least.
I played some drop-in a while back, and ran a shutout. One of the guys playing is on a team with Hockey North America (the Grizzlies). He informed me that their usual goalie was probably going to be out this season, and asked if I was interested. I looked into the league, and I was impressed. Especially with their full goalie stat recording. I spent the next few weeks corresponding between him and the team captain. They are both really nice ...

I spared for a buddy's team yesterday afternoon.....they play in the bottom division of one of the major leagues in the city (Traveller's League for those in/around Ottawa). The scouting report on the opposition was they were very aggressive, liked to shoot, and played 2 division higher in the summer and the previous winter. Oh goody!
