There is a lot of thought that should go into selecting a good goalie school wether it's for yourself, or your child. I've attended many camps over the years. I've been to Future Pro 3 1/5, Rolison's camp twice, Many "On Ice" lessons, Rick Heinz twice, and a 1 day meet and greet camp Brodeur ran the lock out year. As well as many less reputable camps/clinics.

I would say there is two types of camps. Those that teach, and those that get you in shape. Rolison's camp was a teaching camp and future pro is a get in shape camp where I never learned much. The first thing you need to decide is if you want to work skill/tenique, or more on skating(footwork)/conditioning. Skill camps will have just ice time and no dryland or very minimal dryland. A Conditioning camp will have a lot of dryland.

I've been to camps where the teach you, and others that you just do drills and don't get a single pointer. Some camps aim to build you up, and make you a better goalie, and some just tear a strip out of you all week. The programs with all the advertising and big names are not always the best.

Your goal at camp should always to be to get better, and some camps are just out there to make money. Be very carefull about what you sign yourself and especially your kids up for. I won't say who or where but I was called many names, harassed, and told I was going nowhere in hockey by a certain big name goalie coach, at a big name goalie school.

We switched this year, from a "camp" to a year long lesson plan. i teach in a major medical center and see the difference in on going "sessions" over the academic year and so we tried that beginning this off season with my son. amazing difference. he gets conditioning and on ice for combined total of about 3 hours/weekly for 30 weeks, about the length of the season here in TN. plus, he has opportunity to "do homework" on ice with his team or with some of the short sided games at the ice rink. we drive about 1.5 hours to the goalie training center, but it is well worth it. no more camps for him, duration overcomes intensity for 10 year old.

THis is def a good thing to point out, as many new or rookie goalies wouldnt knwo the difference until its too late. Plus we are more likely to go with the big name as we think it should be run better.

I would love to go on a camp/lessons, but with on ice tips and techinques a must, I am not interested in off ice conditioning, as that I can do myself in the gym! I want to pay for coaching and to come out the other side a better goalie, and not just fitter
