Episode 9: SBK Hockey - DK21 Pro Set - Goalie Crease Network Video Review

SBK Hockey can be found in a little town 2 hours East of Montreal. They sell players sticks, and protection equipment, as well as all of your Goaltending needs. They operate their business online at www.sbkhockey.com. There you will find everything you might need to outfit yourself in goaltending equipment. All of their goalie products are made in Canada.

Construction

This set it constructed in Canada, of quality materials. They should stand up much longer than your average overseas senior level gear.

Protection

The protection level of this set is good, there are zero issues with the leg pads and the catch glove. The foams, and padding used on the internals of this equipment gives you adequate protection that's needed to play minor pro level. For most of you looking at this equipment you will be upgrading your protection from the current senior level gear you may be using.

Design

I like the original looking graphics on the pad. The overall design of the blocker could be updated. I found it quite flimsy compared to some of the other blockers I've been reviewing lately. I had pucks hit the top of the blocker and push it back enough to still find their way in to the net. That was the only design flaw I could find, the rest of the equipment performed well, and looked good.



Cost: $1400 (on sale from $1866.67)

As you can see with the pads, they've got a pretty cool design. The landing area is very smooth and slides very well even on rough ice. The knee block is quite comfortable, and you can adjust it quite easily.

All leather straps, and brass buckles. The Jen pro is very thick, and looks like it will last the test of time. The pads came nicely pre-curved for guys like me with the Narrow butterfly. No sliding toe bridge option, so I attached the Flextoe instead of a lace.

The leg channel is quite open, but has great protection with the calf wrap that's provided. This can be left unstrapped for a complete open feel.



Cost: $425

The Glove features a 90 degree break angle, with quite a steep angle in the finger tips and palm to help direct pucks in to the pocket well. It features a single T pocket, 3 hand straps, and good protection for the back of your hand. No stingers in the palm, but most pucks were easily caught in the pocket which prevented this.

It was quite broken in from the start, you would have no problems going straight in to a game with this glove. There's almost zero break in time.



Cost: $299.00

Quality palm on this blocker, looks like it will last. It is quite comfortable. The blocker felt a little flimsy on my wrist. I had at least two pucks tip off the top of the blocker, and in to the net. You may be able to circumvent this by tightening down the wrist strap, but I like mine really loose for the most part.

Overall this set will work for anyone, at $2124 for the entire set it seems a little steep. But the product is made in Canada, and that is really important to some people. I hope in the future they workout the minor issues with the blocker though.
