I just thought of a combination of the two as a clear cage![]()
there would a lot of problems with the clear sheild instead of a cage. fog would be huge issue i always dump a ton of water on my face during the game which along with sweat would get all over the visor(on the inside) and impair vision.
Thats why I came up with the clear cage lol
and heres the big one that nobody mentioned, what happens when a skated sprays you with ice? your vision is then practically gone
Nothing worth doing is ever easy.
every disagreement about this makes me think more of the clear cage thing.... somebody get the president of bauer on the phone
I don't think a clear cage would work very well. Due to various refractions of the light, the mask would always be visible to the goalie, would never disappear like a clean/clear visor would. Plus, there is no way a plastic cage would resist the forces like the typical metal cages, not to mention, if it did break, it would likely shatter. I doubt even carbon fibre would work well in a cage application.
Simply put, the cateye cages are the best for unobstructed vision and safety. The only thing is to find ways to make the cage lighter - ie. titanium? other alloys?
Yeah I did expect some skepticism to something like this but its good to have this kind of discussion
