Default Question about Hybrid vs. Butterfly pads and what I should get

Well I am new to the wonderful world of being a goalie(and I am loving every second of it). My current leg pads are a to small used set. So I am going to buy a new set. I have my eyes on a hybrid set and a butterfly set. Now like I said I had just started and don't know my style yet. I noticed I do stand up a bit more then some other goalies in my instructional, but I also butterfly a decent amount.

The pads I was looking at were both bauer. Hybrid is the Re-Flex RX6, butterfly is the Supreme One60.

I haven't heard to much on the Re-Flex but I have heard good things about the One60.

Someone suggested to get rbk with a turco break to me, but from a quick search they seem more for narrow butterflies, and I seem to have a bit of a wider one(compared to the butterfly widening challenge. I just started doing the stretches, still need to measure myself, but think I have a normal width and am not to narrow)

So any help will greatly be appreciated, and if I order from GoalieMonkey I will use the link at top.

    Hey KingPancake,

RX5 or RX7 you must mean. I don't really consider these a hybrid pad, they're a butterfly pad as far as I'm concerned. Same with the One60, it's a butterfly pad.

The hybrid vs. butterfly pad debate in my opinion is all a matter of what you get used too.

Pads that I consider (and I could be wrong) to be Hybrid pads, are Vaughn Velcoity, Bauer Vapor, Koho 700...

Out of the two choices (I can tell you're looking for cheap), I would go with the RX series. But that's just my personal preference, I've worn lots of itech products. Just do not buy the RX5 glove set, they are terrible protection.

Thanks for that info Itech, the RX I was looking at are Bauer Re-Flex RX6 Monkey Special Edition Sr. Leg Pads

I already have a decent catcher and blocker, which will be upgraded in time, I do have to go a bit on the cheaper side right now. Want to make sure I will enjoy this before going to the high end stuff. I just really need leg pads because the ones I have are way to small for me.

Interesting it says Rx6, it must be just because of the Goalie Monkey special pad or something.

I don't know enough of these pads to comment really. I don't know what makes them different, or why they're calling them a hybrid pad. It's a pretty boxy flat pad.

Just remember whatever you do choose, click the link from here, it helps us out a lot!

Well I went with the most important factor in deciding on goalie pads... Color and style!
I went with the Bauer Re-flex RX 6. I figured I would try them out and then maybe I can give a review on this site about them. I did think about the Vaughns, but I have a few Bauer pieces already so I will stick with it for now.
And I did order from GoalieMonkey and clicked on a link from here, so you should have some money coming your way.
    Thanks for the info.

    Wow, what a nice guy.

Good luck with the RX6. Give a review after playing with them for awhile and post some pictures and details like what your ATK is and the size of pads you bought. It's worthwhile to read reviews on entry and mid-level pads and not just high-end, bling-bling pads.

Thanks KingPancake, you raised $23 for the site! :) That'll go towards the bandwidth fees.
