What have you used in the past?

A smart thing to do is buy a used pro set of pads..

If you like the stiffness of your R4's get a stiffer pad (OneXX), if you would like to get more flexibility, go for the pad with outer breaks (RX x)

Look at used pro pads for the same as lower level pads though. Better durability, performance, and just all around better pads. GSBB or eBay work great for that.

I wish I had done this. I love my pads (Vaughn Velocity, one step down from pro) but I hate that the top 2 straps aren't leather straps with buckles; they have those plastic clips. What the heck am I going to do if one of those ever breaks?

At the risk of sounding stupid... how? The straps are looped through them and sewn. How would I re-sew them? (I do sew but no way can my machine handle that kind of material).

I can't remember how I did it on my first set of Itech's. I replaced them about 3 times. Worst case if you can't sew them, bring them in to a shop to get done. I've seen some people replace them with metal snap buckles too.
