I saw this review on the big green board myself, and in addition to the video reviews that Itech has done on this forum, this was one of the things that helped make my decision to go with Simmons for my new pads. Fantastic review, and very informative. I'm going after work here to go pick up my 996 chest protector from the UPS depot - I can't wait!

How are you finding the sliding in them now that you've used them for a while. I myself am coming from Vaughn 7400s and I feel like those don't slide as well as I would like... so it kinda concerned me when you talked about the difficulties sliding, and how once you warmed them up they only slid as well (not better?) as your old pads.
Also, since you are coming from the 7400s as well, what are the major differences that you notice between the pads? Anything you liked about the 7400s that you don't like about the simmons?
The 996 pads slide very well. Much better than a Vaughn Velocity style pad.

Ok, I don't mean to derail this conversation too much, but I'm curious....
The vaughn velocity's sliding surface has not only some stitching, but it is also slightly offset from the front edge of the pad. Newer pads like the simmons and the passau that i've seen seem to have the sliding surface on the same plane as the front edge. I would think because of this, the simmons would be more stable (more pad flush on the ice). I'd also think the friction would be higher because of this, but maybe it's the lack of stitching that makes the difference?
Anyone know why vaughn's sliding surface is offset, and how much a difference that makes?
Big Green Board? I just call it the GSBB.
That's for the action shots Temple. I guess you are the same Temple on GSBB.
Not to derail this conversation, but I'll be getting Vaughn 8600 leg pads soon. I read some good reviews on them and I didn't have the Monet to get a nicer pair. I saw that DSS is having a sale on demo 996 pads. I don't know what their prices would have been on those. Probably out of my league.

My set of 996 pads/glove/blocker currently retails at $1200, but they're always offering sales. I got it for a fair bit less!
For a set of Canadian-made pro-quality gear, that's unbeatable. I went from the Vaughn 7400 (senior level, offshore) and the difference in quality of materials and workmanship was startling. I paid about $1400 for the complete set of Vaughn 7400s!
