    Default Goalie pad heel/boot strap

Hi guys and gals,I'm new to goalie and i wondered how everyone keeps the extra heel/boot strap leather from getting caught under their skate. Mine keeps getting caugt and I don't know until I slip when trying to push off and go across the crease. Any tips or tricks would help. Thank you.

Can you post some pictures? I don't really understand where this extra strap is coming from?

Best way to is after you come thru the buckle, go back thru the way you came with the tip again and pull thru so it makes a bow and pull thru a little. Goalie pad heel/boot strap-dscf5215.jpg

This is exactly how I do it, and how I've taught some of my squirt students.

Thanks you guys. I will try that again but they seem to keep sliding out when I do that. I guess I may have to trim them down.

Out of curiosity, how tight are you keeping that strap? Generally you'll want to keep that strap extremely loose. Mine is so loose I don't even have enough slack on the end of it to loop back into the buckle. I'd suggest the same (this is in addition to keeping a looser, approximately 1" toe tie), as it keeps the pressure off of twisting your ankle in an unnatural way.

I wear it a little loose but I'm new and I'm not sure which straps u keep loose and which are snug. Also what is meant by the 1 inch toe tie ? Thanks.

Here's my pictorial on how to create a 1" toe tie. Basically it allows your foot and ankle to act naturally and not twist unnaturally. Tying Your Toe Tie

Once you do that, I definitely recommend only using the first or second hole (from the end of the strap) and keeping it VERY loose. This too allows your foot and ankle to drop naturally as you're in your butterfly or a half butterfly. You'll notice a little give and wobblyness to your pads, but you'll get used to it and your ankles will love you long time.

For those who have a lot of strap left, they loop it like Avsfreak said. I guess you loop it too but the strap slips through because there is no tension holding it too the buckle.
You could trim it down so you don't loop it but just pull it all the way through.
I posted two pics. One with the heel strap pulled all the way through. The other is of Tim Thomas and Carey Price fighting. You can see Thomas' right pad has rotated without his foot being pulled outward. Without seeing it, you know the toe tie has a lot of give.Goalie pad heel/boot strap-fight5.jpgGoalie pad heel/boot strap-sds_1333.jpg

Thanks for all your help. I love being able to tap into all this knowledge as a new goalie. When a lot of you guys started you probably didn't have a resource like this. Get ready for more questions as my first game is this weekend, I'm sure I will have some after that LOL.
