For under $400, go with a Simmons chest protector. I'm looking to upgrade my Reebok Premier 2 C/A, and I'm considering the Simmons Matrix. Basically it's the same as the Reebok Premier 1, but $150 cheaper (you're looking at $309 CAD). Only heard good things, too. They have one that's basically a clone of the popular Vaughn one, too. That's the first place I'd look.

Avoid the mid-level Bauer. I purchased this from Total Hockey (approx. $220.00) and it's falling apart. One of the arm seams is unraveling, the neck portion is fraying, and I can't seem to get the belly buckles to stay attached. That said, it does provide ample protection.....it just doesn't seem all that well built.

I agree with Simmons or Passau although the Passau chesty is $450. Although it is fully custom built to your body!

From what I've heard on here, I'm likely going the full Passau kit next time when my (crappy) 6k's die.... I think i might start playing road hockey with them to help them along cuz I wan new stuff... plus i got my RBK chesty when I was about 30lbs heavier,so it's getting abit bulky on me now...
