Was able to go to the Reebok P4 VIP Presentation yesterday as part of the Let's Play Hockey expo. It was a very informative presentation, learned a lot about how they are making their pads. There was a lot of talk about internet rumours and how astute the internet goalies are today. In fact they were quite impressed with the level of knowledge and curiosity that the average internet goalies have. Believe me when I say that even the big companies are paying attention to what gets said on the net.
One of the rumours that I found quite interesting was the fact everyone keeps talking about how Reebok paid Carey Price to switch his gear. In fact they have not given him any contracts or money. He contacted Reebok himself, and said he was interested in making the switch. They happily obliged.
There is some seriously interesting changes in the new pads, and how they're made and where they're made.
One of the other things they talked about is how the average internet user thinks just because something is made in china, that it's crap. I felt like that myself until the discussion. Everyone asks "where product is made?" But real the question they should be asking is "What are the materials used in making the product?" Because skilled labour can be from any part of the world, as long as the facility is up to spec, and the training is done properly. It's the materials that make the quality of the pad, and the materials are what need to stand up to abuse. When a design is made, the skilled labour follows a structure, and if it's done right it's fool proof. So again, materials are what people should be focusing on.
I'll talk about it some more after visiting the Expo today.

After going to the Expo today, and talking with ALL of the manufacturers. There seems to be a consensus... and what you guys DON'T realize is, there isn't very much profit in Canadian Made products at all. So as a business you need to find cheaper ways to generate profit. These aren't NON-Profit companies, they are there to make money. So there's more reason to move to China verses Canada, and it's not just profit. You can actually manufacturer product a hell of a lot faster when you can afford more labour staff. So don't think just because it goes to China that it's instant profit to the company.
A major complaint I hear all the time is the fact gear takes forever to get... Moving to China speeds this up.

and takes good jobs away from Canadian/US workers
I can't post too much up as a lot of it is unreleased information. But obviously the P4s are already out there for all to see.

itech you realize they're gunna tell you what you want to hear right? they make millions off pads the "we dont make much profit" card is beacause they don't make billions. and pads will not speed up when custom ordering, they just say what you wanna hear
