Hello,
I was wondering if there is any disadvantages of switching Brand name pads. I have always worn RBK, but I have always wanted to own Vaughns.
Does anyone know any advantages/disadvantages of owning Vaughn vs RBK?
I know this is a generic question as I am unsure what Vaughns I will be purchasing. If it helps I am currently wearing RBK Preimer Series Pro 36"+4".
Thanks

I've heard RBKs are generally better for butterfly style goalies and Vaughns are generally better for stand-up or hybrid goalies. Not sure on that one
I wouldn't make the switch myself, as a goalie equipment reviewer I've tried all the styles now. I learned on a flat faced, big rebound pad, and it's really tough to make the switch. If at all possible, borrow a set for a couple ice times, and you'll see how much you want to stick with the style.
I owned Vaughn all my life until just recently where I switched to Brian's.. Love Vaughns, have no complaints. When I was in the market for new gear a few years back I tried RBK and hated them.. It's all preference but for me personally it would be a toss up between Vaughn and Brian's. like Itech said, grab some and try them out!
After a long layoff years ago I bought a first generation set of Vaughn Velocities. I learned to play more of butterfly style with these pads. After a few seasons I came across a great deal on a pair of RBK 8k's and picked them up. The difference in these pads was enormous because of the lack of a leg channel and took alot of time to get used to. I almost sold them after a few ice times. I now love these pads but a switch may not be in the cards if you expect to transition quickly. I would suggest making the change in the off season and get a few ice times under your belt before the start of next season. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. It might be due to the frustration I have had with my pads lately (Having a bit of an issue with them sealing the ice properly) coupled with the fact that I have wanted Vaughns forever. I am definitively going to wait before making any changes.
My son has used Vaughns, Bauer and RBK's. He did not like the Vaughs, said they were too soft. He just flat out hated the Bauer's he used for one season. He just got his 3rd set of RBK's, and loves them!
