I just replaced my 5500 with a Passau, fits much better than my 5500, is pretty much broken in out of the box and is (for want of a better phrase) a "tank"
This is a discussion on Chest Protectors... Replacing a Vaughn Vision 5500. within the Equipment Chat forums, part of the The Gear category; I am replacing my Vision 5500 Chest & Arms and I am looking at several new chest & arm protectors ...
I am replacing my Vision 5500 Chest & Arms and I am looking at several new chest & arm protectors and a few have sparked my interest.
I am mainly looking a the V4, these should be going on sale soon because of the V5 Release.
But for those that have touched & handled the V5 Chest; how does compare to the V4 are there any major changes or updates?
Whats the difference between the Vision 9500 and the Velocity Pro?
I remember trying on the V1 and I felt like a marshmellow, so I took home the 5500. Does it still do the same?
How about the Reebok 11k?
How about the Brian's Pro Stock?
(I am not buying a SIMMONS & the "Made in China" doesn't bother me.)

We just put the 7600 C/A on sale this past week - FYI.
A few upgrades on the 7800 will include:
- Upper rib cage triangular padding is now all HD foam, instead of HD foam surrounded by a binding. This just extends the HD foam out an extra 1/4" or so.
- Shoulder floaters are slightly wider at the top outside shoulder location. They are also now made of nylon instead of the mesh material.
- new side wing pad cover the buckles on the side to help keep them from breaking.
Reebok 11K has great protection, but it is very tall and stocky. Blocking style guys who like the pad to take up as much net as possible love this pad. Hybrid style guys who want more mobility tend to shy away from it. These tend to run a little long on the belly pad compared to other c/a's of like sizes, so keep that in mind if you choose this one.
Brian's Pro Stock is bulky feeling as well, even though the shoulder floaters are somewhat small. Neck opening fits tighter than most, chest, arm and elbow padding are great.
Vaughn 9500 is a really protective, mobile pad. Shoulder floaters are large, but not bulky and they allow for good movement. Triple padding on shoulders, Large HD foam blocks on belly. Here's a video of that pad which may help give you a better idea of how it looks:

Hope that helps.

Bru, thanks for the information. It was helpful. I would consider myself a Hybrid goalie (aka "a early 2000 butterfly").
check out the Passau unit also with the above that Bru mentioned!

Passau!
Have you ever had a dream that you were so sure was real? What if you could not wake up from that dream, how would you tell the difference between the real world and the dream?
What about the last iteration of the EPIC C/A? It's basically the 9500 which is just the updated version of the 5500. I'm still rocking the 5500 from 1998 with a couple added mods to make sure I don't get bruises on my arms. The only problem now is the smell.![]()
I've been looking for an Epic 8800, but I'm a large and can't find anything bigger than a Small (looking for a large).
Does the V4 have the mobility like my 5500 Vision?
Similar mobility but different fit. The epic is describbed as being a vest fit and the v4 is more like a jacket.
I like my epic, but I love my v3 units too. Can't go wrong.
I went with the RBK 9K. Ample protection. Short in the arms, long in the belly, so I let the arms out with longer string and now I tuck my C/A into my pants, which I am now liking the feeling of. Both problems solved.
Definitely bulky though, but breaks in quite nicely for mobility.
The 9K is/was $200 cheaper than the 11K, but I didn't notice $200 of difference between the two, which is why I opted for the 9K.
