Default What protects you on the ice?

Just wondering, in an attempt to know everybody here, what's your ensemble of gear? What are your thoughts on what you're wearing? I'll start it off:

Mask: Eddy Custom LT w/ SS CSA cat eye. Love the mask. Taken a few off the dome with very few issues. I'm a bigger guy so I needed a bigger mask off the shelf when I started playing again. I've only encountered a few times that rung my bell... once from a wicked slapshot that dented my cage by about a half inch inwards, and another when a teammate rang one right at my ear when I wasn't looking his way during warmup on a shot.

C/A: Reebok Premiere II Pro. The C/A is alright but it's never sat on me very well. The arms don't quite stay in place well enough. The wrist velcros almost never stay tight, since the plastic alignment clip always slips out of place. I've taken a few shots around the collarbone area that stung quite a bit; I think the floaters were too far out. Thinking of saving some money to get a new C/A that'll fit me better.

Catch Glove: Vaughn 7450 Sr. I love the double T on the glove... I feel like it definitely benefits trapping a puck in the glove. The catching surface is big enough, although I'd like for the fit to be a little more snug. Plus, since I'm only a rec level goalie, the quick break-in time was a huge plus when I bought it. Felt a few stingers through the palm area from mistimed catches, but nothing awful. Construction quality was miles better than my previous glove, a Rbk Premiere II Sr. The stitching came apart and rendered the wrist straps useless on the RBKs after just one season.

Blocker: Vaughn 7450 Sr. I only really bought the blocker to be a companion to the glove. It's a little bulkier and heavier than my previous blocker (Reebok Premiere II Sr.) but it adds a great deal more protection. I'm not crazy about how it sits when I paddle down on the ice, but I suppose that's inevitable with a squared blocker. I only really remember way back in the day when I had Bauer Reactor 6 gear, that the blocker was great to paddle down with because of all its weird offset rounded corners.

Pants: Itech Prodigy 4.8 Sr. The pants feel kinda flimsy, but move around easily enough so I can't complain. The 5 hole cheater blocks feel like they shift out of place sometimes and hinder my skating when they do.

Leg Pads: Koho 586 Sr. Honestly, I got these out of nostalgia more than anything else. Being a huge Patrick Roy fan growing up, I always wanted a pair of Koho leg pads, but never had the opportunity to own them until recently when GoalieMonkey released the new Lefevre designed pads. They're simple enough pads. I like the traditional look to them, although I feel like there are certainly better pads out there as far as innovations go.

Skates: Bauer One75 Sr. The skates are nothing fancy, but do the trick. Breaking them in was pretty good, certainly better than I remembered with my old CCMs back in the day. Having flatter feet makes finding skates trickier, so I've put gel heel cushions and an additional insole pad to alleviate arch pressure.

Stick: Warrior Messiah (Backstrom twist model) For the longest time I was a wooden stick guy. But I decided to try a composite stick one day a year ago, and haven't looked back. The stick is so light that it makes moving the blocker hand a breeze compared to the old wooden Sherwoods I used to use. It's taken a fair amount of abuse, too, but still has a good deal of integrity along the paddle despite shards of carbon fiber wrap being chipped off from slapshots.

Well, what are you guys using?

*Edit* here's a decent action shot from a scrimmage I had a few months back.

    Good thread!
Ill start from head to toe.

Shark 996. Its a custom made pro level cat eye. I had it custom painted in a Matrix theme. Love it, good protection. Ive been hit by a number of shots with no issues.
Maltese GPS neck guard. Love it! Like anyone whio has one will tell you you cant even feel it once you put it on.
Bauer Pro chesty. I love the mobility and for me the protection has been very good with one exception. Pucks seem to get between the 2 pieces of padding in the shoulders. Hurts like hell when it happens, and i have had a few nasty bruises. I added one of those padded under shirts to help out.
Vaughn 7500 glove. I think it is, it actually has no model # on it. It is a pro glove though. Protection is good. I had one extremely hard slapshot hit the palm. I though my hand was broken for a minuet, but just a stinger.
Vaughn 7450 blocker. A blocker is a blocker as far as im concerned. Never had any issues with it.
Vaughn Epic 8000 pants. Comfy and seem to offer good protection. I have never felt a puck through them.
Reebok Pro cup. Never felt a shot through it.
Vaughn 7900 knee pads. No issues with them.
Simmons 996 35+3 pads. Great pads. However i still dont have enough experience to really evaluate a set of leg pads. I have a narrow butterfly and still have some problems getting a tight seal. Beyond that they seem to work very well for me.
Bauer One 80 skates. I love them! Still the most comfortable skates i have ever owned. A few people around here hate them, but they work great for me.

    Against: Nothing!!

Chest: Passau C/A series - For: Customer Service, Price, Quality & wait time.... Will comment more once I get to use it

Blocker: Simmons 995 Pro - For: Excellent quality, great comfort, great protection, Price.
    Against: None so far

Jock: Vaughn V3 - For: Don't have anything to compare it to, but what can I say other than it works lol
    Against: None so far

    Pants:
Bauer Vapor XXX Pro - For: Light, Breathable, comfortable, excellent protection, internal removable knee protectors
    Against:
Belt doesn't go tight enough, could do with an internal belt aswell as external. Easy fix though

in time, plenty of colours available to choose from.

Skates: Bauer Vapor XXX - For: Good protection, good price from local store. First skates so not alot to compare to.
    Againsts:
Not alot of padding through tongue or sides, the casing has be known to break on medium shots, no replacable blade
    option.

Sticks: SWD 9950 Ex Thin Lalime curve - For: Excellent durablity, easy and comfortable in grip, good lie pattern, price, Larger blade surface
    Against:
I bought it too big, im 5'7" and using a 27" paddle, thats not right lol
RBK 6K Pro Return Dekanich curve - For: Not really a favourite of mine, so I guess only plus for is price.
Against: Doesn't feel that comfy, lie pattern slightly off, blade is a smaller than others

Bag: Bauer Pro Wheel Bag - For: Capicty size, lots of compartments for various bits and pieces including 2 external skates pockets, plenty of ventalation,
    strong stitching and seams,
Against: Needs 3 wheels as the middle sags and drags, if you put skates in skate pockets bag width is difficult to get through
many regular sized doors, inlcuding cars.

    * Picts will follow!

Realistically, other than my set(pads + gloves) I could probably use all new stuff..getting old

Mask -- white Olie, have had it since midget...time for an upgrade

Neck -- Vaughn 7450 small style neck guard...take too many shots to the throat to go without it

Chest -- ccm gatekeeper, again had it since midget..I have a love/hate relationship with new gear.. light, mobile, good arm protection...still does the job

Glove -- Vaughn V3 7500, not a big fan..but was in a jam heading into provincials and got the whole set fairly cheap. Getting more and more used to it as I use it. Too much palm, not enough pocket.

Blocker -- Vaughn V3 7500, for me a blocker is a blocker.. most high end ones are generally the same..again bought the whole set.

Pants -- Vaughn V3 7500, think I got these in midget too, but they are still in great condition.

Jock -- Itech, pretty sure this was my first ever goalie cup. Still works I guess.

Pads -- Vaughn V3 7500, love them. Recently took the thigh wraps out because at one of the camps we were at, one kid took his off and took a shot in the knee, so I lent him mine. Like the feel without them but not looking forward to taking a shot either....so far so good. Been in Vaughn pads since bantam and probably wouldn't wear anything else with the exception of Brian's. I love the Pro Stock Brian's but can't afford at the moment.

Skates -- Graf Goaler Pro, definitely due for an upgrade as well. Have had these since...oh boy.. either pee wee or bantam. Love them but this is probably the next investment.

Stick -- Bauer supreme one80, P39 curve, 27 1/2 paddle, broke too many wood sticks last year so I switched to a composite, and I love this one. Also have an x:50 or something but reallly don't like it.

Bag -- my old Beardy's Blackhawks bag, all leather, whl style carry bag. Spacious, no tears. Can't see myself buying another one any time soon.

Bucket: Hackva ???? (I don't know the model number - they only make one mask anyways)- Like - solid; take alot off the head, never really been rung. Started with birdcage, but switched to Cert. Cateye from Manufacturer and will never go back. Might switch out from the chrome to something more in a matte finish. Stock Red Carbon Fibre.
Diss: The foam on the backplate fell off a few weeks back. I've hotglued it back in place, but will likely head back to the warehouse to see if they can fix it up better for me... not sure if the hot glue is damagin to the materials, but I figured it's the back plate, so not a huge concern.

Neck: RBK something something- Like: Protects neck and colarbones
Diss: it's a little stiff. I wish it had some more flex to the collarbone protection part. But that would likely protect less, soooo... I deal with it.

Core: RBK Premiere Series 6k (i think - it's the blue and white thing)- Like: Cost pretty much. It was not the cheapest, but I don't need really high end stuff... at least I didn't, I'm playing against higher level players now, and might consider an upgrade.
BiteMe: Doesn't like to stay put. Straps seem to adjust to where they want to be, and have cost me some bruises. I got what I paid for though. It protects the main areas well. Never felt anything in the chest or shoulders.

Glove/Blocker/Pads: RBK 6k- Like: Was on sale, and really, I just needed a glove/blocker/pads.
Diss: workmanship and durability is on the lower end. I don't play alot, and after 4 years it's wearing a fair amount

Blocker: Simmons 994 Pro - uh, see above

Jock: Sherwood (I think)- Like: Never had a painful shot there yet, so I guess it's doing its job. Also make me look much more endowed... I should wear it to the mall....
    Diss: Nothing yet.

    Pants: Nike Bauer XXX
    - Like: they were all that was instock that would comfortably fit my fat ass.
Diss: Actually, I don't really like Nike.

Pads: RBK 6k- Like/Diss: See above above above above

    Skates: RBK 3k- Like: Price
Diss: That i look like an RBK fanboy

Wood Sticks: SWD 9950 Brodeur - Like: Excellent durablity, easy and comfortable in grip, good lie pattern, price (yes, I just copied what someone else put... sue me.... er, don't sue me... )
Diss: none, this is my backup twig

Comp. Sticks: Bauer X:60 (i think - it was a gift) - Like: I love this stick! I will and always be a Warrior fan for their sticks both player and goalie. (yes, I just copied what someone else put again... the same someone in fact. Might not make alot of sense, but whatever...)
    Diss: none

Bag: Grit Sumo- Like: Durability, organization, the ventilation for when I store dead bodies in it... it can hold 2... 3 if i chop them up... (kidding. probalby will hole more than 3 chopped up)
Honeslty, the best bag I think. Also, it's named after my other favourite sport.
    Diss:
    none

I'm likely going to replace my pads/blocker/glove in the next two years, looking to go Warrior Ritual, Brians SubZero, or Passau. Need something a little more durable, and I can be pickier about features now that I know more.

Mask: Old Don Simmons Lefebvre mask knock off, circa 1995. Padding has been replaced and the chin was fixed by ProtechSport. No cons - can't complain after 16 years of use!

C/A: Itech 8.8 Ozone. Has been okay, but the belly padding isn't adequate anymore. Time for a new one soon.

Catch Glove: Vaughn T5500. Off all of my equipment, this is one of two pieces that I'll never replace. Ever. EVER!

Blocker: Vaughn B5500. I don't like a lot of side hand protection so this has been great. Cons - it's got a wedge on the blocker board on the outside edge of the face which produces weird rebounds. I've gotten used to it and until I find a new blocker with less side hand protection I'll keep it.

Pants: Vaughn Legacy 6000's. Like 'em. I tuck my C/A in so I like the wide barrel fit.

Jock: Vaughn 8800 Epic Double Cup. As Eddie Murphy once said, "You don't have to hit nuts, you just have to graze nuts to feel pain". With this cup, no more grazed nuts.

Leg Pads: Smith 1000's. This is the other piece of gear that I'll never replace - until Warrior gives me a Ritual set to demo, that is. I cried when Pete Smith went to Warrior, then I started working for Total Hockey and got happy again.

Skates: Bauer Supreme 5000's. Looking to replace them soon as the boot is getting flimsy and I really want to wear the Vortexx cowling full time.

Stick: Warrior Swagger and Sher-Wood 9950. Of the two, I lean towards the 9950 for better feel, but the Warrior is stick 1A.

Love reading about everyone else's set up. Keep 'em coming!

Head - Bauer NME 7: Love it, got it two months ago. Its got a straight bar cage with the thin bars in the middle. I like it a lot, already taken pucks off it and it is a major improvement over my old one.

Neck - Reebok Throat Guard: Nothing to write home about. Generic.

Chest - Bauer Pro C/A: Pretty good, fits like a glove and haven't had any mobility issues. Sits a little low on my body, might have gotten a size bigger. Otherwise I feel nothing thru it which is suprising because it seems small to every one I play with.

Glove - RBK 7k w/PII graphics: Nice glove, deep pocket, little light on the palm padding, but I don't take many there so its nice. Wearing down a lot faster than I'd like since I only got it in Feb. Need to get a better set, cause I play a lot like 3 times a week, problem is convincing the wife on the big investment for a whole set.

Blocker - RBK 7k w/PII graphics: What to say, blocker, nice board. Only complaint is that part of the finger proctecion on the bottom side was getting in the way so I had to remove it.

Breezers - CCM's ?: Don't know the model, good set back in the early 00's but need a new pair as they've seen better days. Torn up on the waist and may be a little big.

Cup - Bauer Goalie: Not much here, never felt anything.

Leg Pads - RBK PII's 6k Sr: Good all around set, never had any problems at all, love the model as I wasn't a giant fan of the PIII's, I stuck with these. Movable strap locations is great, knee lock could use a little tightness. Love them otherwise. Nice and light. Wearing faster than I'd like though.

Skates - Bauer One60's : Fantastic skates, loved them since I've got them, I have two different length feet and these were the best fit and love the cowlings. Loved them since I got them 5 months ago.

Stick - Reebok 25" Broduer Curve: Wood sticks love em, nice and light weight and seem to be able to take the punishment I put them thru better than my previous Bauer composite could.

Bag - Player's Bench CCM Roller Bag: Plenty of space. Falling apart though quickly, especially the skate holder. Also bottom isn't sealed so screws rusted, got all over my gear, so I lined the bag with a towel. Hate red over my white gear.... */sigh*

Thats all, and yes I love RBK gear. Fits me the best it seems. Wanna try the Larceny gear. If anyone has it I'd love to hear reactions.
