In all honesty, I think this should probably be among the least of your concerns as a new goalie. Work your fundamentals, play for fun. If your kees are together, this a small V at the center of your butterfly won't be an issue.
    Without a doubt I don't have proper technique, just started about 3 months ago just playing in open adult games so I have ALOT to learn lol. Everyone is saying to put my thighs/knees together, which makes sense but when I do that there is a fair amount of overlap in butterfly, is that ok? Or are my pads too big?

    Some overlap in your butterfly is perfectly fine. That's pretty typical, really.

    Overlap = Sealed up.. 98% of the time.
