Default Anyone with experience switching from Vaughn to Reebok or vice versa?

I currently have P2 reeboks. I like them and I don't have any problems with them, but I'm not sure if it's just because I've just gotten used to them and learned to play how the pads allow. I'm debating Reebok Revokes or switching to Vaughn Velocity pads. Differences mainly being smaller rebounds, knee rolls, softer pad overall. When looking at NHL goalies (and I know their pads are all custom) it seems like the goalies that I want to play like, use Vaughns. They are more hybrid, very agile and flexible. That's how I want to be and move away from being a butterfly goalie. I've been working on skating out more to play the puck and not sure if the Vaughns will make that easier because they seem more close fit to the leg.
Basically, I want a pad that will enhance my style rather than the pad defining how I play. Does that even make sense?

Any help or suggestions? What experiences do you have switching from one or the other?

    Thanks!

    wow, uhm ok.

very wide spectrum here for questions

vaughn are a softer pad, they have a closed leg channel where rebbok is more open. "very agile and flexible" are traits they have because of the training and working out they do, that includes yoga.

if you want smaller rebounds, a vaughn pad is your answer, BUT i have vaughn v4 and i can put out huge rebounds. its more how the puck hits your pad, you want to cradle it sorta-of-speaking rather than kick out your leg, that whole force and momentum thing..

for your reference i have been in pro return V2s, to rbk p2, then to a v4 set. very different pads.

your skating and puck playing comes from your legs, the pad SHOULDNT hinder your movement as long as they are not sloppy on your legs.

vaughn have more of a closed leg channel there for meant to be strapped a little tighter than reeboks as they have an open leg channel for rotation

I'll answer your questions in order.
    It makes sense.
I would suggest you get either Reebok Larceny or Brian's Pro Stock. Looking good is way more important than playing good.
I don't have experiences switching from Reebok to Vaughn or vice versa.

Though it's traditionally true that Reeboks have an open channel while Vaughns have a closed channel, Reebok is now customizable between four different channels, including the traditional open, two kinds of loose fit (two calf straps and three calf straps), and the Revoke closed (similar to Vaughn). The stiffness hasn't changed, though: if you want those close-in rebounds, then Vaughn is probably your choice, while if you want to knock it out further and give yourself more time to recover (as Lou justifies) then you probably want Reeboks.

That said, I don't have any experience switching, either. I tried a friend's Vaughn glove once and it felt terrible coming from my Reeboks, but that's probably just a preference thing. Never used Vaughn legs.

so it seems like the big thing is difference in rebound control. i recently saw a video review of the new V4's. It focused on the things that Vaughn upgraded, solid foam core, flat face instead of the knee rolls, etc. Seems like their moving towards the same features that the reeboks have. Anyone have input on that? Is that the direction pads are going in?

So vaughn is finally starting to catch on can use a solid foam core eh? They're technology is so far behind, I hate their products. The pads are a terrible design, yet some how they still have that "oh so and so is wearing it, so it must be cool!"

I am kind of in a similar boat. I am wearing a 36+1 Lefevre (Koho from GoalieMonkey) pad and I am thinking I'll get a pair of V5's soon. It's my understanding I'll need to size up to a 37+1 in Vaughn. Hopefully the switch is painless. We'll see. Prior to these I was wearing a set of Smith SP6000's which were great although the sizing on my set was a little small and my knee was too high in the knee lock.

i'm not sure about the sizing for vaughns when the pads are new, but they are known to shrink over time. about an inch or so. then again, with the new solid foam core, i assume that will somewhat solve that issue.

Im not sure how you can say they are a terrible design. Have you worn them? If so, what issues did you have? I wore Vaughn since I was old enough to branch out from the minor hockey boughten pads and decide on my own, until this year. I never had an issue with the pads at all and honestly wouldnt be able to decide between them and Brian's pro stocks now, if I was in the market.
