And the main function of wax is to protect the tape from water, thereby keeping snow from building up on your blade as you move/shoot. In this case it would act as a "sealant" of sorts and keep water from getting in the fibers/holes and potentially increasing the damage from water/ice.
Cool, so I should probably invest in some wax!

Don't bother, just borrow some from one of the players in the locker room. :)

Wow. My player sticks last me 1-2 years. I play less frequently now since I do both skater and goalie so they will probably last me 2-3 years. Guess I'd better pick up 2 sticks when I buy a new one.

If I only got 6 months out of a stick, I'd be p***ed! I don't think I've owned 10 sticks total since I've started playing, let alone gone through that many. When I started playing goal a few years ago, I started with two wooden Bauer Supreme 1000 sticks, and eventually upgraded to some composite sticks (Sherwood RM9) just over 4 years ago. Bought two of the Sherwood sticks - the first lasted 18 months, the second lasted until this past summer when I did my goalie camp.

Granted, I don't play at a very high level, so my sticks don't take nearly the abuse that some of the rest of your guys' do!

Wait.. you don't bang your stick against the goal and break it when you get pissed off at your team? (I'm down two sticks from that alone this season, ugh.)

Typically I'll go through 2-3 sticks in a season, depending on how often I play.

If I did that with my regular team, I'd go bankrupt buying sticks alone. Love playing with a team full time, but when I'm the best player on the team, there's something seriously wrong. I'll bang my stick on the goal after something I know I should have had, but I've learned to show some restraint

When I bang my stick, I don't wail on it. I give the crossbar a tap, basically just loud enough for myself to hear as a reminder to get my head back in the game.

If I went through 2-3 sticks a season, I wouldn't be on the internet much - no electricity!

I broke quite a few sticks earlier in my short goal career. I hardly get upset anymore when a goal goas in. I absolutely had to change my mindset as i was not having fun and was ready to give it up. I found that if i allowed myself to get angry things would just spiral out of control and pucks would start going in left right and center. Since i changed i can actually rebound quite well even if i let a couple of bad ones in.
Have you ever had a dream that you were so sure was real? What if you could not wake up from that dream, how would you tell the difference between the real world and the dream?
