    Default End of my stick?

My tape was torn all to pieces, so I decided to take the old off and put some new wrap on my stick. I noticed around the heel that there was quite a bit of paint flaked off, and some noticeable cracks. I snapped a few pics:

Should I immediately move this to a backup stick, or do I have some time before it disintegrates?

This happens all the time to my sticks, it's usually just the tape taking it off. Usually it'll last for a long bit just, re-tape and continue there are gonna be cracks from play no matter what. Think of the speed and damage that pucks do to unprotected stuff, same thing.

Agreed. Might as well keep going with it until is gives out on you. Just make sure you've got an extra with you for when it decides to do so.

See those fibers all broken apart at the heel? That's your main concern. Depending on how well you use your stick to stop the puck, I'd say you have less than five games left, realistically. But we're all beer leaguers.. use it til you can use it no longer, then move to the backup.

Tape it back up nice and tightly, wax it, and keep using it till it breaks. You should always have a back up at least in the dressing room.

I once forgot too, and low and behold I broke my stick in half. Thankfully the other goalie was nice enough to let me use his backup.

Murphy's law : You will always break your stick when you forgot your backup :)

Yes, that was my concern. I could pull some of the fibers apart with my fingers = serious lack of material integrity. I'll grab my ole Sherwood and bring it along. On one hand I'm not too happy that a $100+ stick is letting go after only about 6 months of use, but on the other hand I'm planning on switching to a Bauer stick as it has a better lie for me, so that's a positive! :)

I'm going to show my rookieness here... What does waxing the tape do?

Six months of use? That's pretty good, really.

And the main function of wax is to protect the tape from water, thereby keeping snow from building up on your blade as you move/shoot. In this case it would act as a "sealant" of sorts and keep water from getting in the fibers/holes and potentially increasing the damage from water/ice.
