what is the best trapper/blocker combo for the money?

This is a discussion on what is the best trapper/blocker combo for the money? within the Equipment Chat forums, part of the The Gear category; So, I'm not asking "what's your favorite trapper/blocker" or "what's the best trapper/blocker" but rather what's the best pro-level trapper/blocker ...

Default what is the best trapper/blocker combo for the money?

So, I'm not asking "what's your favorite trapper/blocker" or "what's the best trapper/blocker" but rather what's the best pro-level trapper/blocker combo for the money. I don't have endless gobs of money to spend on gear (more importantly, Mrs. Da Goalie wouldn't be happy with it). Don Simmons has combo packages ranging from $400-$650 for different blockers and trappers (e.g, the 997 is $588 and the 996 is $479 for both). What do you guys think is the best pro level gear for a decent price? Can Passau deliver something similar? Other brands?

Let's set $600 as the upper limit for a combo. Talk amongst yourselves!

Thanks. How would you describe the trapper compared to other big brand gloves in terms of closure/padding/style etc. Simmons, for example, compares each of his models to a Vaughn or Reebok or Koho model.

It's easier for Simmons to compare because their gloves are a copy of an another glove.

I can't compare our glove with an another glove I have tried. I can say the feel of the glove is very natural, like a baseball catcher. Very different than a Reebok glove with the big U closure. Our customer really like the glove, the most common comment is the ease of the closure out of the box and the natural feeling. The new version of the glove open very wide.

I agree with Sebx. My gear was more expensive than his quoted price because I asked for a custom graphic, but everything he said is true. Amazing glove for amazing price.

cool, thanks. Will keep that in mind for April when the birthday money comes in!

Also, can you do a retro vibe on the Passau? The all brown classic look?

Yes they can! Go on their website Passauhockey.com at the top click Design> Vintage and there is an example of the vintage vibe.

do you know is that the same price or extra?

This is great info. Now I just have to hope that I get some dough for my birthday and I can convince Mrs. da Goalie that whatever shortfall there is I can make up . . .

I think the vintage design isn't extra, but if you order with genuine leather instead of Jenpro it is but don't quote me on that. That to Sebx or email Hugo, his email is on the website, to get your answer.

Any other gloves that have more of a natural feel... Like a baseball glove or a catchers mitt? I'm a tactile person, I need to feel it before I buy. That is my problem with ordering something from Passau or other custom manufacturer. I have a difficult time in communicating exactly what I don't like about my current trapper and what I'd be looking for.
