This is a discussion on Show off your gear! within the Equipment Chat forums, part of the The Gear category; New additions to the family....
Here's the last piece of my gear, CCM Pro Tacks. Eventually (hopefully mid-end of summer) i'll buy a better mask.

well i like how the mask feels now. im liking the sweatbands now too. the paint job is crappy though, already chipping. it sounds like thats a common problem with those masks. its metallic silver underneath so im thinking about just letting it all chip and clear coating it.
The metallic silver might be a protective layer that's got a coat of paint over it for some protection reason. I'd check into what will happen if you clear coat the underlying layers instead of coating it with some form of paint before you jump in and do that.
Archi, when I first started playing hockey 15 years ago it was roller, then roller goalie, then in H.S. I made the jump to ice as a forward, then to my mother's dismay I went goalie. I played my first two seasons 12 years ago with a players helmet/cage and players skates. I know the frustration of not having all the gear right away:p
Lol, good to hear i'm not the only one. Even worse for me, I purchased that itech profile 2500 mask new around a month ago. Slightly before I had purchased anything else and at the time I was planning to play inline goalie. It was clearance, so i cannot return it. Tapped my "goalie funds" out on the other equipment that is more then good enough for ice.
So, now i'm stuck with a brand new, not even used yet, mask that isnt really up to snuff with what I want to do. In all reality its probably good enough for the stuff i'm going to start using it for, but all the forums/input from others has me doubting it~and that I dont need. Perani's near me has a "goalie blow-out sale" at the end of april, I'll check it out, but more then likely i'll be waiting till mid-end of summer for a better mask.
Oh-well, live and learn.
