    Default Pad size

So I'm still in search of pads. I'm pretty confident that I'll be getting the Bauer TotalONES but I want to make sure I get the size right. I know how to measure my leg, but that doesn't help me know what size pad to get. I know the knee lock on the TotalONES is movable, so that helps.

My shin is approximately 17 inches, and I wear a 8.5 skate. I would like about an extra 10 inches on the thigh (when I measured that's where I liked it). When I added it up I got 35 but my current pair are 35's and my knee isn't completely on the knee block when I go down. I was thinking 34+1 or maybe even 33+2 because I like the overall length, just not the shin section.

If someone has a similar leg length or knows more about this than I do please give me your opinions. Please don't post a leg measuring diagram because I've looked at them already.

    Thanks!

I'd normally suggest trying on a pair.... BUT being at the base of the Keweenaw, not sure how many local hockey shops with TotalONES there are... Good luck.

Bauer fits small like Vaughn as far as I know. They don't have any bauer sizing charts out there?

I use Bauer Supreme ONE100s that also use the fully adjustable knee cradles. I'm 5'9 1/2" and use 34+1. Even with this pad...(this is the correct size according to Bauer) I had to adjust the knee cradle to about 1" lower and about 1/5th of an inch towards the inside of my knee because I wear the Bauer Pro knee pads.

You will notice when you get these Bauer Pads that the adjustable knee cradles (Bauer Pro One100 or Bauer Pro Supreme TOTALOne) have to be fine tuned to your liking. The only way you're gonna have them fit perfectly is to adjust the knee cradle after a few games. Only until then will you find that sweet spot. Myself...it took me roughly 6 games after buying them brand new.

Now...they're perfect. If I bought and started using a new pair of Passau knee pads for example, I will most likely have to adjust the knee cradles again to conform to those particular knee pad. Again...it's all based on personal preference.

I'm also upgrading to a whole new Bauer Pro Supreme TOTALOne set as well but this time around...I'm gonna get 34+2 to get that perfect closure when doing the butterfly.

Thanks qualcommq, I'm literally the same exact height so it sounds like 34+1 would be a good bet for me.

Height has nothing to do with Pad size, keep that in mind. People's leg/torso ratio varies so much.

To Qualcommq, what's your ankle-to-knee and floor-to-knee measurements? What's your skate size? It might give the dude a better idea of what size to get.

So true, the other goalie on my team is at least 3-4 inches taller then me but I wear a 38" passau and he wears a 37" passau. Damn my short trunk!!

I'm in New York right now since Thursday so I can't measure my ankle2knee/floor2knww measurements until I get back. With regards to skate size...my normal shoe size is 8.5D and after so many years I've always been told to use a skate size roughly 1 size smaller than your regular shoe size.

Boy was in shock back in December of 2010 when I upgraded everything (Head to Toe) to all the latest Bauer Pro Supreme One100. The store used that Bauer skate measuring tool and the correct "Goalie Skate" I should be wearing was 6 1/2 EE! My feet were wide which I never knew. As soon as I put on those new skates...MAN was it perfect. After baking at the store, it fit even more like a glove. Did not rub, did not feel uncomfortable (which I thought it might) but perfect especially in how this new Supreme One100 boot fit.

Anyways...I would have never known that using the correct measuring equipment made by the OEM manufacturers made ONE HELLUVA DAY AND NIGHT difference!

All these years, been playing in 8.5D (skates I bought when I first started playing)/7.5D (skates I bought after hearing it should be 1 shoe size smaller). Being properly fitted in 6.5EE was a game changer. Yeah I lost 41lbs since then (that's why I had to buy the Medium Bauer PRO chesty and sell my Large Bauer PRO chesty - was swimming in the large) but my height at 5' 9.5" and now using the correct sized 6.5EE has not changed along with using 34+1 pads until...my new Bauer Pro TOTALOne gear along with pads in 34+2 just to seal that butterfly perfectly shut.

I know you probably don't want to hear this but you need to try them on. Some sizing charts may give you a size you don't want because you might prefer pads to be higher or lower on your leg. I like my pads to come up very high on my legs so i size up.
