Looks like a 960 to me.
This is a discussion on Can anyone ID the model of this Itech mask? within the Equipment Chat forums, part of the The Gear category; ...
I play hockey because I love the game. I am a goalie because i have all the mental deficiencies that the position requires!

If it were a 961 then I would've been all over it. Not a big fan of bird cages.
it sold for 450 which was probably a decent price. if i could have stolen it i wouldnt have had a problem buying a cateye cage for it

I had a 950. It was the same color and cage and look as the one in the picture. It cost $225 with the mask bag. I think I bought in either 1999 or 2000. Anyway, as for protection, is was okay expect for a high slap shot that went off the top left side of the mask. I got a headache from that hit that didn't go away for a couple of days. It didn't hit the front which may or may not have been worse.
The front is typically the most protected area of a mask since that is where most pucks are supposed to impact the mask. Since it went off the side of your mask it's somewhat equivalent to getting hit in the side of the car where the least protection is thus it caused more injury.
As for getting a steal, the 960/961 run around $500 USD brand new, so depending on how this mask had been used that wasn't much of a steal.
And yes, fitting a cateye to a 960 would've been unique since they're drilled separately. It would've involved redrilling and patching the old mask holes which in turn would've weakened the mask structurally.
Oh i didn't realize that the holes are different. i just assumed that Itech took two identical masks, put a certified cage on one, called it a 960 then put a cateye cage on the other and called it a 961. I thought most companies made interchangeable cages, am i wrong on that?
