Product Review: Bauer Xrated combo(pads, glove, blocker) intermediate
We purchased the combo for my son at Christmas. He plays squirt A and
peewee house. The combo has been used by him for five months of play
and practice, including weekly sessions of goalie practice on
"synthetic" ice as well as weekly on ice sessions during off season.
Here's the scoop:
1. Pads: after spending two nights parked under a dining room table,
the pads were sufficiently broken in. The shape and coverage provides
excellent protection from shots and sticks around the net and from the
blue line. They function to help deflect to the corners whether in a
full butterfly or partial. They are light and have maintained their
strength and are ready for a new season of play. The material and
workmanship is excellent. The straps and buckles have held up well and
are easy to connect(leather straps at bottom, nylon at the knees with
the extra knee pad). They dry quickly and maintain their shape.
2. Blocker: the blocker is a blocker. One difference he's noticed is
the curve at the wrist isn't as pronounced as on previous blockers for
intermediate goalies. Thus his deflections and blocks are actually more
true to where he intends them where the more curved blocker used to send
pucks back into the middle more often. Again, it is strong and
lightweight.
3. Glove: Greatest he has used. This is his fourth glove(one junior
and third intermediate). All previous gloves had difficulty with the
lacing and webbing coming loose or breaking and having to be re-strung
between games. The Bauer xrated glove is flexible enough to maintain an
open target and closes easily allowing him to "catch" pucks and not just
knock them down.
Overall: workmanship- excellent
Functionality-excellent
Price- great product for half the cost of many of the
popular brands out there.
