Reebok Pro Spec Pro Goalie Chest & Arm Protector Review

So I said I would review this after a few times on the ice. I've had multiple games with it and had some issues learning how to tuck this bad boy in and make it work properly. After seeking some advice from others with this same chesty and a few trial and error games. I think I have it sorted out.

Mobility: This is what I call a blocking goalie's chest protector. It's not the most agile piece of equipment out of the box. It's stiff and will most likely take a good 3-4 months before it's completely broken in. The arms move freely, and it's construction works well. I am sure once it's completely broken in, I may change my view on it's mobility.

    7/10

Protection: I find this is the most important feature of a chest protector. Getting a hard slap shot from someone who can hit it 96 mph is not a good feeling. I actually upgraded away from two separate chest protectors to save myself from one of my teammates. Even when he tries to take it easy on me in warm-ups he would end up hurting me in my 6K and then my RX9. So far so good, he can jam it as hard as he wants and I feel nothing more than a little pressure at impact. The one negative I have to say about this chest protector is the fact that the way it's constructed in the arm pit area. It seems a tad bit open. I pointed it out in another post. I have yet to suffer any ill effects of it, but it seems like it's going to cause me some pain down the road. The rest of the chest protector is very well constructed and I don't anticipate any issues.

Another bonus is the elbow cups, they're amazing. No more sore elbow from sprawling on the ice and coming down on the elbow. The hard plastic cup over the elbow gives great added protection. It's like having a players elbow pad on, inside the arm channel.

    9/10

Adjustablity: It has a strapping system isn't the best. My RX9 was a better adjustable chesty. It has all the basics, but it is not designed to pull tight and hug the body well. Some guys like theirs loose and space between the unit and their skin, I on the other hand feel more comfortable when it's tight. This may get better with the breaking in, but still not too impressed with the back strap system.

    5/10

Overall: This is the best chest protector out of the 3 that I've owned. Any issue I've stated above is minor in comparison to other products. The protection level is second to none, and I'm expecting this to last me quite a long time.

    8/10

To loosen it up you might consider hanging it on the top of the shower curtain while the water steams the bath (water never actually coming in contact with the chest protector). Once you leave it in there for about, oh, 15-20 minutes or so, put it on while in the steamy bathroom. Wear your pants so you can put it on like you would for a game. Move around in it, bend over, hold some poses. Sound funny, but it'll loosen it up pretty well.

I prefer my chest protector on the outside of my pants and very loose, so I generally don't have the problems you're talking about, but this is certainly one method to make it conform more to your body and movements.

I have this same C/A in the gray and black color scheme. I love it. The removable pad lining the chest portion is amazing at deadening puck impact. Users should note that this C/A is not designed to be worn with this removed, and Reebok does not sell individual replacements.
The collar sits low compared to some C/As, but I like that it doesn't funnel dirty air right into my mask.
Loosened up for me in a matter of a few games and wearing it around the house.

Other than that, Itech is right. Definitely a blocking style C/A.
    I love this thing!

I have the exact same one and used a large instead of XL to help hug my body a little better. Had to loosen off the armpit strings a bit as my arm span is much wider than normal. But same as you I've been hit with some hard shots, not 90+ but definitley 80-85 and didn't feel a thing. The close it gets to the neck line the more the padding gives, took one off the chin and down into the neckline, and it hurt like hell! I should listen to my own comments to my girls in ringette to always wear your neck protector.
As for tucking it in, I had the wife sew me up a velcro strap on the bottom of the padding with an elastic so I can tuck it into my goalie can and wrap the velcro from that right over top of it. Kinda acts like fighting strap as well, if you play that type of hockey! hahahaha

Default Reebok Pro Spec Goale C/A Sizing

Great thread and great review. I'm in the market for one of these c/a protectors, but worried about sizing. According to Reebok's sizing chart, I'm a senior large. I've always felt I was a medium, so worried about an online purchase. I'm 5'10" average build. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm wearing a senior large ( normally wear XL) to hug me better but I'm 5'9" and 240lb, heavy build ( powerlifter) So a medium should work for you, may have to let out the buckles a bit, but I can't see why it wouldn't fit. Hope that helps?

Im 5"7', 185lbs and I wear a Senior Small which has plenty of lower ab protection for me to wear untucked.

You can see how the chesty sits on me with my Vapor XXX Pro pants (older model of the One95's)

I'm 5'11", 215 at the time of purchase. I bought a Sr Large. I bought this model because I have long(ish) arms (I'm not actually a gorilla). The arms run a little long compared to other C/As. Also, the collar sits a little low on the clavicle. I wouldn't wear this without a dangler. The ride has come up a little as the floaters have broken in and started to curve over my shoulders.
Ideally, you should go to a pro shop and try one on. It doesn't have to be the pro model. Usually, the RBK line fits pretty much the same, the difference in model and price is almost always difference in materials (i.e. better fabrics, foams, velcro, etc.).
HOWEVER, if you do go to a pro shop for advice, buy the equipment there. You may not get the same deal as on GM, or some other site, but don't be the guy to bleed the local guys dry on advice, then shaft them on the sale. They will usually try to work with you on price (in an effort to gain repeat business, and good word-of-mouth).

I dont have this problem at all, I find the collar to come out pretty high on my body. I had a Brown JB1800 and that was LOW thing practically showed my nipples hahaha not quite that low, but for my body shape the RBK does come up high. So I would agree with APE go in and try one on.
