Default Bauer Supreme Pro Chest and Arm Review

I just purchased the new(ish) Bauer Supreme Pro C/A. I haven't worn it on the ice yet, but here is what I see so far...

The unit feels very nice. A little stiff through the body, but not any more than one would expect from a new chesty. The rib wings wrap around me almost to the outside edges of my kidneys (I have a 34+" waist). The interior shoulder plates have cool little drop-downs to help protect the armpit and upper ribs. The straps going over the trapezius are adjustable so you can customize how high the collar rides on the collarbone. There are removable lower abdomen flaps for increased protection. Elbow floaters are attached by the elastic straps used in elbow cup adjustment instead of being stitched directly to the unit. I would imagine this will eventually reduce floater sag, since you can replace the elastic as needed.

The arms and elbows are flexible off the shelf. I could touch the back of my head the first time I put it on. The spine protection has the honeycomb style padding that is starting to become common in Bauer's stuff. Just wearing it around the house, I notice the heat reduction in these areas a little bit.
The shoulder floaters are held firmly in place by several points of elastic. They're still riding a little high right now, but I haven't broken it in yet, so they should eventually settle down.

I'll be wearing it on the ice Friday morning and Sunday night. I'll post my "on ice" review and pics afterwards.

Ive had mine for about 6 months playing mostly once a week.
I love it. I tried every singe one they had on at the hockey shop. I felt the mobility of this one to be by far the best.

Sorry it took so long. Here goes...

The mobility on the ice is great right off the shelf. I had no problems with flexibility or full range of motion.
This unit is much lighter than my old Reebok Pro, but deadens the puck just as well. I can tell the difference in reaction time as well. The decreased weight has allowed me to move just a little faster.
The stiffness melted away after the first two ice times, and now the unit form fits nicely. Very fast break in.

I bought one at the beginning of this season and have not looked back. Wonderful unit! Protection is very good and does not hamper mobility - which was my worst fear switching out of Vaughn C/As.

I'm looking at buying the same C/A, but I do not have the luxury of trying it on. You said you are a 34" waist. I'm 6'1" 165lbs. with a 34" waist. I see that you bought a large. How does it fit? I'm a skinny guy & I'm afraid the large is going to be bulky, but I'm not sure if a medium will be long enough in the arms. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    hey guys,

I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth, without taking away from the unit.

    Plus:
    Light
    Mobile
    good fit

    Negative:
lacks padding in around shoulders area for me
very stiff through the body, although didnt interfere with mobilty during play

    Nice unit over all!

I have this same unit and can attest to the lack of padding in the shoulders. I have had a number of hard shots find there way between the floaters. I have had some very sore shoulders as well as some nasty bruises. Its too bad because all in all i really like the chesty, but i cant recomend it for that reason!

how does it compare to the passau? Ive tried this C/A on in the shop and liked it very much, but still have my heart set on a Passau Chesty.
