Default Reebok 11K Pro Pants (Review, Pics, and Comparison)

I've been going back and forth between pants for a good eight or so months now. When I started goaltending again back in January, I had bought some brand new Reebok Premier Pro pants. Great pants, but stiff as hell, so I actually contacted the guy to whom I sold my old Premier pants, and exchanged them. In the meantime, another guy had contacted me to buy his used Premier Pro pants, so I bought them, too. Pants are a ***** to break in, so I don't mind buying used. Anyway, so then I had two pants: absolutely lovely but not as protective original Premiers and then the extremely bulky but protective Premiers. So what do I do? Pick up a new pair and give them a whirl: the Reebok 11Ks.

I picked these up from my local Total Hockey after they had to be shipped in from their Chicago store. Immediately I knew I'd like them, as they have a combination of things I really like from the original Premiers combined with the protection of the updated Premiers.

For comparison's sake, let's take a look at all three side-by-side:
Left: Original Premiers, Middle: Updated Premiers, Right: 11Ks

Remember back when pants had a flat-face design (i.e. original Premier)? It was taken away in the P2, and was angled back and rounded funny. Now the flat face is back with the 11Ks. But then the 11Ks took those little movable upper thigh protectors that the original Premiers didn't have, and added them for protection (which was my main complaint about the original Premiers.. they don't have much in the way of upper thigh protection).

I immediately made some modifications to the pants. I can't stand the internal belt. I couldn't stand it in the Koho 590 pant, couldn't stand it again in the updated Premiers, and I really can't stand it now. I even tried it on, felt ridiculous, and promptly cut it off. I also cut off those "AB clips," as I don't tuck in my chest, nor do I own a P4 to which to attach it.

I also added on the female end of the 1" clip to which I connect my chest protector.

One thing I really like is that the little cup protector is adjustable now, whereas before it was one of those pieces that was both velcroed and sewn, and so it was confusing on what the heck to do with it. However, I really, really hate that stupid silver material on the sides of the top of the pant. Wish they just would have left it black.

Anyway, they seem like great pants so far. A bit stiff, of course, but they'll ease up with time. I'm thus far impressed with the flat face and protection. I'll update more as I use them.

You're very welcome. I forgot to add two things:

    1. These are WAY lighter than the updated Premier pants. Not sure what the difference is, but it's noticeably lighter. Like perhaps as much as 1/4, it seems, though I haven't weighed it.

    2. This thing has some BEEFY tailbone protection. I actually don't like that, as it was rather surprising when I sat down on the bench for the first time. It was like, "Whoa.. violated."

I just bought 9K pants (my level of play doesn't need super-protective stuff). I agree about the tailbone protection. And there is so much padding on the butt, including hard plastic, that I look like I'm wearing a bustle. I'm going to remove some of that - it's just not necessary IMO.

I also used to have the original Premiers, which I loved, but I bought them used and they were falling apart.

I personally like the silver bits on the back and waist - it's one of the reasons I tried them on. But that's just the girl in me, I guess...

Quick update! Just got these back from the cobbler (which apparently is the real name for a shoe repairman) with my new Luongo/Giguere knee/thigh guards sewn to the pants. When I went in I asked him to put some eyelets across the top of the knee guards and then sew in a leather tab across the inside of the pants so that I could string/tie together the knee guards to the pants and adjust them. He said he thought he could do a better job just sewing it and it would perform about the same way. I was skeptical, but I let him do it.

...and I'm glad I did. It's FANTASTIC. I told him exactly where it'd need to be sewn and sent him pictures of the real set up just to make sure. It came out absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to use them tomorrow night at the evaluations.

I'm still considering taking out the hard plastic pad in the tailbone. It's really awkward. Seems like I could rip it out easily and not be a big deal.

I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question. Where is the protection between the bottom of the pants and the top of the knee protection? Looks like there is a quarter-inch of space that is just fabric.

Not a dumb question at all and it was my initial concern, too. but once I put them on and did some carpetflys it became fairly evident that not only is there not enough room for a puck to get in there, but because the thigh part is basically an extension of front face of the pant and its only attachment point is below the knee, there's ample space between the very thick padding and my leg, so even if a puck was to get into that space, it won't be able to make it all the way back to my leg.

If I REALLY wanted to I have some old player pant padding that I could cut to fashion those two little wedge things to clean up that space there, but I don't feel it's necessary. I might do it in the future just for looks, but right now I love how it looks and works.

Like I said, I put them on and did some carpetflys, which were AWESOME. Nice rotation on the pads, my knees felt comfy, I can finally use the knee lock again to keep it more securely on my leg, and I'm more than confident in the protection.

You look like it's attached on the outside of the pants. Luongo's are attached on the inside, could this cause an issue possibly?

It's attached on the inside of the bottom of the pant. It's kind of hard to see in that last photo, but there's actually quite a bit of the top padding overlapping on the inside of the pant so that it provides additional protection. No issues so far, but I also haven't played in them yet. I'll know for sure tomorrow night.
