    Default Reebok 7K mask

Yippee. My first piece of goalie equipment came today.
I got a Reebok 7K men's mask, size large, white. I got it on sale so I'm pretty happy about the price.
    Looks: I love it.
Weight: The weight of the mask is close to my last Itech mask but a bit lighter. Lexan shell.
Cage: The grill is chrome and beefy. Beefier than my Itech's. That's nice.
Fit: I have high cheek bones so I had to remove the side-of-the-face pads to alleviate pressure. After I pulled them off, the mask felt better. The crown section of the mask feels good considering I have a fat pumpkin head. It's got half styrofoam (like on bicycle helmets)/half rubatex-like foam. My Itech player helmet is like this. I guess it makes it lighter.
Sight: This is the worth discussing with other goalies who use a regular certified cage. When I put it on to look straight ahead, the middle bar is almost eye-level. I have to tilt my head down a bit. When I angle the mask up a bit, I can look straight ahead without tilting my head and look through the next lower openings. I see other goalies do this.
Carrying bag: It comes with one that was a surprise. I like it.
Sweatband: This looks minimal. I'll probably be getting a you know what.

Here's a series of photos of the unboxing.

Well, I got it for 150 dollars on clearance and for that price, I think it looks decent. Yeah, I would prefer a Warwick mask (the Belfour model) but I don't have that kind of cash-o-lah.

How do you like your 7K mask? I was offered a really good deal (not $150 but still good) at my local shop, but I was wondering what the reviews are on it. I currently, am short on funds, and I've being playing with a mask that I have been wanting to replace for quite some time now, and this is the best chance I will have at replacing it.

I haven't worn it on ice yet. I've read two complaints: 1. chin section cracked and 2. backplate strap clip broke. Every review I read on it, including the negatives ones, were that it was solid for protection.
So, if you look at the backplate photo, there are five clips that that hold the straps. If a strap clamp ever breaks, I'm going to put in a regular backplate strap and feed the straps through the holes like a regular backplate.
The Rbk sweatband is even smaller than an Itech/Bauer one so I think I will be getting a Sham Sweatband.

    Default Reebok 7K

I tried the Reebok line and found them very tight on the chhek bone and temple area. Bauer and Eddy were a better fit for me. I friend who has a wider face went Sportmask like Tim Thomas wears. I wouldn't wantto remove padding to make a mask fit. Hope it works for you! I love Reebok player gear as all of my player gear is Reebok.

I'm going to trim the foam down and glue it back. It's too tight in the cheek bone area. I can't reduce the foam in the skull area. That's dumb and risky.
I had an Itech mask in the past and that wasn't tight in the cheek bone area but it was tight in the skull so it didn't sit evenly. Shots were felt where the padding was in contact with my head, so impact didn't get fully dispersed. I don't know if the Maltese mask repadding kit will help or not. It's got a bunch of rubber polymer science-futuristic dots you put in instead of sheets of foam.

I bought a 7K mask last spring on a great deal myself. I picked up one with the "Dragons Lair" design on it from a local shop here for only about $275 (don't remember exactly what I paid). The store was having a sale so it was already discounted, plus they had an additional sale on any goal equipment that was orange. Not sure why orange, but who am I to argue?

I've now been using this mask for almost a year, and once I got the strapping sorted out for tightness, etc. I love this mask. I noticed the snug fit off the bat as well, but after wearing it a couple of times, I didn't even notice it. Same goes for the certified cage. I've taken a few shots off the mask since I got it, and I've yet to have one that's actually fazed me. From my experiences at least, shots that have caught me in the mask have been dampened very well with no issues. Very happy with this mask.
