    Protechsport Fiberglass Mask Review

Hey Guys and Gals i've been using my mask since June and i though ive had a good amount of time to make a nice detailed review but if i've missed anything or if there is something you wanna know feel free to ask.

Mask History: When i first started playing ice hockey i used a tps helmet that didn't really fit and i got normally 3-5 ringers a game and i got a concussion in it so i decided enough was enough and to buy a different helmet, My next purchase was an older Van Veldon 2 mask off of craigslist and it was a tank! It did its job well but it didnt last to long, by the end of my first season my cage had 5 dents in it a lot of the foam had fallen out and there was lots of chipping plus i still had a problem with ringers so i bought a Cooper SK2000 and a Custom oldschool fiberglass mask (some of you will remember my review of it haha) i had noticed a crack in the shell of the sk2000 that to pervious owner didn't mention so i never brought her on the ice. And I finally made a great investment after all my searching for the right mask for me and protechsport was the best match for my price budget and needs.

First Impression: When i sent my order out i was quoted between 4-5 weeks for it to be complete from when he got my head mold, i was in no hurry but i was waiting like a little boy just before christmas and when it arrived i was ecstatic! It also arrived 2 days after my birthday so it was a great birthday present to myself. When i got the mask the time was 4 weeks and 1 day so his time was spot on. I pulled the mask out and i had to stop myself from drooling it was a beauty. I got a flat black paintjob with a white certified cage, chin cup and strapless backplate.

Looks/Styling: 10/10 The mask itself has some very nice lines and you can tell its a protechsport if you know how to spot them, ive gotten many complements at the rink about them and i love the style of it. it puts the cherry on to to finish off my gear.

Craftsmanship/Construction: 10/10 The craftsmanship is beautiful on this mask and the only thing that even looks warn is a couple paint marks and a few areas of paint coming off on the cage. The mask itsself looks very even and very well built and tough, i got just the plain inside of the mask so there are some imperfections on the inside but you can get him to smooth it all out if you want for some extra coin but it doesnt bother me and in no way effects the performance. The mask itself weights 3lbs and feels very well balanced on your head.

Fit: 10/10 The fit is amazing it was just tight enough that the mask holds very fell and is close to my face but not tight enough to cause pain or discomfort, the only time i notice the mask on my head is when my ear slide between the padding right above my ear, normally just gotta shake the mask a bit and it normally goes back to normal. The only thing the mask doesnt agree with me the most is when i start flopping around like dominick hasek and tim thomas's love child haha

Protection: 10/10 I havent had any issues with protecting and ive had someone elbow me across my face in my crease when going full speed, had a couple cannons hit it and been slashed multiple times and have had 1 skate hit it and i havent even gotten a ringer from it. The hardest shot i had was from the point that hit me right between the eyes and had enough force to pot the button straps off and i felt it but there was no ringing and it didnt hurt all the other hits have been nothing more than being hit with the puck anywhere else lol (A lot like this

Customer Service: 10/10: Michael was a pleasure to deal with, i wasn't sure how it would be with his first language being french but his written english is probably better than mine haha. He would normally reply to my emails within a couple hours i think the longest time i waited was 12 hours but i did send the message just before midnight his time so thats nothing on him people have gotten sleep some time haha.

Price: 20/10: As most of us know price is a very important thing when getting our great not everyone can afford to get a custom made cubberly or prochoice or a itech/bauer 961 but its very difficult to find a mask that has high level of protection for a low price but protechsport has made that possible. With there fiberglass model costing $300+ tax and shipping, the fiberglass and kevlar costing $450 and the full Kevlar version topping at $600 for a custom fit mask is pretty dam good in my books. I believe mine cost $381 after shipping and tax and i dont know a mask on the market that can compete with the quality it has gives me for under $400

    Final Roundup:
As you can tell im in love with my mask and its one of my favorite pieces of my gear.

I was playing as a sub for a friends beer league team and got a head seeking missile and man if i was in my old mask i definitely would have been hurt, the mask looks untouched but i did get a small dent in the cage and felt like a light punch to the cheekbone when it happened. Im no worse for wear and i found it funny after that happened the players on the other team kept shooting at my head thinking i would flinch or move out of the way. They must not have known how crazy i am

Great looking lid, I'd love to get one of these myself! What mold is yours, and what is the chin length?

Mine was the Patrick Lalime mold and the standard chin length which is 3 inches if my memory serves me right
