Hey sorry for the long absence guys, had a lot of things going on with life and lack of hockey. I have been playing roller hockey off n on [on call goalie] for about a few months since my ice team lost in the first round of the playoffs. Just over a month ago I cracked my sternum taking a slapshot that found its way straight int my sternum. See i have two chesties, one sr and one jr. Do the math, hot roller rink.... plastic puck.... dont need all that padding.... neck protector, eh too hott. The jr chesty hangs really low. I never saw the puck till it was a fraction of a second away from hitting me, it found its way over my chesty yet under my dangler. I didnt know what hit me [sorta speak lol] but i had the warewithal [spelling?] to keep play the rebound and snatched the puck out of the air from my stomach and then commenced to shear agony. i stayed down for a lil while but got back up and kept playing [didnt know it was cracked] and finished out the game. NOTE TO SELF and OTHERS: No matter how hot you think you are.... Never sacrifice safety for luxury. It aint worth it! On another note in this particular game I was horrible... at first lol. Long story short --> We were up 2-0 going into the 2nd, and down 3-2 going into the 3rd. Halfway through the 3rd the score was 7-2. And just like my old ice team, "i started shouting TWO! over and over and so on. took that wicked slapshot with 5 mins left to play, and we tied up with 1:30 left and took the lead with :45 seconds, and i had a helluva scramble in front of the net with just under 15 seconds where i stoped 6 consecutive shots all from my side and back. [Oh got my Hasek on and was hurting bad!] Teammate scored on a clearing attemp with 2 seconds left and won 9-7.

In other news, i will be visiting the Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater rinks in a week or so, then packing my bags because i am moving back to PA in late July! YAY back where i can actually play and find the gear i need and train lol.

So thats it! Once again sorry for the long absence and ill try to catch up as quickly as possible!

Hello my fellow goalies, I am the happiest goalie on the forum, I recently ordered the following gear: Reebok P4: int. pro pads, senior medium pro chesty, pro glove, 18K pants and 12K skates, CCM 500 blocker and an Eddy Custom Kevlar mask, the guys over at The Hockey Shop were great with helping me out on ordering the gear as all my gear is old, previous gear: Simmons 990/Itech Reflex franken chesty, Reebok 3K skates, Reebok P1 5K 12" wide pads, P1 5K glove, Powertek Barikad blocker, Itech Profile 1400 mask which was replaced with a Vaughn 7700(?) mask. The first pic here is my previous gear set up, the second is my next pad/glove setup but with a CCM blocker.<img src="http://www.goaliecrease.net/attachments/equipment-chat/8718d1369398301t-christmas-may-img_4041.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Hey Gang,

Hey Gang,

I know there are some gluttons for punishment, but here are a few metabolic finishers I put together for you that you can add to the end of your workout. They are pretty tough, so make sure you are training regularly before you try these. I explain the rational a little more in the video, but basically you can use these 1-2 times per week at the end of your regular workout to build some of the anaerobic lactic tolerance (and mental toughness) you need to stay low, explosive and responsive even when you are fatigued.

I hope you like them (actually if you are doing them right you should HATE them )

Cheers,
Maria

PS - let me know if you have any off-season training questions, you know I am here to help.

Im sure you have seen that some goalies have dangler attached to thier helmet with skate laces instead of the thin thread that comes with it such as the bauer.

Is there a special shortened lace that they are using or are they just cutting a pair of laces up. Im concerned about cutting the laces as they will fray and only lose thier function faster.

Any insights.

I'm still trying to get a consistent rhythm to prepare for a game. The one team (roller) I play for is horrible (no defense, literally yelling back at the D defending a 2 or 3 on 1 to let them shoot, so they just walk it in on me). Preparing for them is hard b/c I already get into a losing mindset and I want to be able to clear my head and focus on playing. For my other team (ice), I can focus on me b/c my ice team provides some offense and defense, so they have my trust. And I know it's not me all the time b/c I've played on other roller teams at higher levels and have played better with them. Idk if it's me playing down b/c I know they're not good or what.. but if you're on a bad team, how do you get your head in the game and focus on playing and not get down on yourself?

I did just get them cut yesterday so I assume it is the cut. I assume maybe they were cut to shallow which is causing the issues with shuffles? I am going to take them someplace else to see what happens. Should I be asking for a certain depth of the hollow? My son is 10 playing travel hockey and he is a pretty aggressive goalie

i dont know about anyone else, but when reebok came into ice hockey i hated them, ( i had never tried there gear) but developed this hate because they previously made mountain bikes which were cheap and nasty.

i recently purchased some reebok skates (as i was on a tight budget) they turned out to be 10x better than my previous skates (bauer xxx), its taken me months but i decided to try a reebok stick (loved all my tps sticks and warriors ) so i didnt expect to like it that much, unfortunately now i hate all my tps and warrior sticks lol.

i wish i had tried reebok sooner !

anyway does anyone else have random hatred towards a company for no reason/ specific reasons......?

My CCM Extreme Flex Pro Review

(apologies for the asterix in the fields.....something didn't translate properly when I formatted it) If you would like to read about it in a normal format, you can find it here: https://dukes.sourceforsports.com/ga...lex-pro-review

When one does a review, I always say make sure you get some decent time in a set of gear before you even consider writing about it because in all reality, there are things you will initially love about a piece of gear and then the shine can either get brighter or wear off in due time. *This is exactly the case with this wonderful set of gear. *I received my custom set back in early March. * I was very anxious for this set because on paper, it has all of things that I have been requesting for many years on my own Reebok sets. **
There were a lot of initial changes in this pad and glove setup. *I was priviledged to see and try the prototypes back in the summer and I liked what I saw. *I wasn't completely sold on using them but being they were in prototype form, so I left it at that. * The fact that Reebok was now pushing the CCM name out again in goalie equipment was enough to make me very excited about this setup. * They had made some changes to the build of the pad in that they eliminated the stiffer boot setup and coupled that with a more overall flexible core. *You combine that with some knee rolls and some different toe and strapping options, you have pretty much a winner on your hands. *These pads are no exception to that rule. * The CCM Sports site had some initial issues with the site launch but now it really is a great setup to customize your gear in both form and colour. *I like the fact that they continued the ability to store your profiles. * This really comes in handy when you want to tool with some different colour options. * Remember a few years ago when you would have to photoshop everything and use a blank colour template to get an estimate of what it looked like? *
So....enough of the fluff. * On to the review!!!!
Here is what I received in early March. *i posted a teaser pic a while back on the GSBB as I had to wait a few weeks until I was permitted to do so. *

My current team colours are basically the Rangers jerseys. *This works nicely. *However apparently, we are changing up for the fall so I'll have to make some changes. *Pads and gloves were superbly built and there was not a stitch out of place. * The only error with my order was that they shipped the pads with thighboard and I haven't used those in years. *That being said, it doesn't matter anyways as I use a kneepad in place of those, so out they came! *
Pads:
As you can see with the design of the pad, it is very squared up. *I opted for the following modifications on mine that I'll highlight as we go through the pictures:
35 + 2" on thighrise
double break
firm foam knee setup
outer flap at knee
loose fit with 2 calf straps
jen-pro HD foam with lacing toe bridge

Again with any set of pads i get, I do the outside colour with something other than white. *This pad is unique for Reebok as you have a couple of options for affixing the velcro knee strap to the pad. * You can either have it on the angled knee wing or you can have it attach to the actual calf wrap. * There were two schools of thought when they did this: *one of them was to give a bit more room in the knee cradle if you wear a bulkier knee pad. *Here is where i had some issues and made a few changes to how I use the pad for how I play. * When I first got the pad, I pulled off the thighboards and put in my trusty old Revoke knee guards. *I figured it would work fine.....well, it didn't. *The knee pads were shifting and moving and the inside piece was actually pushing the pad outward on me when recovering. *So....off they went and I had to find something different. * I went with another set of knee guards that I had which were new and unused. *They seem to work fine but I had to change the way I attached the velcro knee strap. *I now strap it to the calf wrap and that took out any interference in that area. * I also re-arranged the knee strap and I put only 1 buckle in the slot below the knee which is what I am used to. * What I did for the knee area to assist with keeping the knee in the pad was to removed the lower knee strap altogether and just use the mid-knee strap down to the lower buckle. *What that does is still give you some holding power of keeping the knee on the wing, yet keeps it fully open for smooth and easy rotation as the buckle is below the knee and doesn't interfere with the pants in any way. * It works! *No what I am doing is getting a new set of knee guards and will try them to see if they work better than my current setup. * I'll review those at a later time. * To note...the calf protectors on this pad are nice and thick and really do protect well.*

This side of the pad is extremely FLAT! * Truly, it works so well, that I was a bit taken back at first. *When you drop to the butterfly, you sit down and tight with this setup. *There is no shifting or moving of the pad. *The overall dimensions of the wrap that sits under the calf plate is perfect. *It is a very comfortable feeling and the jen-pro on the bottom edge is a good wear piece as well as giving you some stability when pushing laterally while down. *I prefer the bootstrap on this location as opposed to where it is located on my Velocity pads. *I also prefer that bootstrap through the pad as they have on the CCM Extreme Flex setup. *Note the middle strap coming out of the mid-block as pointed out earlier. * One thing about this pad is that for me, they have put the calf straps in the perfect locations. *There is no skate interference with the strap whatsoever in that lower area. *

You can see the updated calf area where they changed up this area and removed the corded lace. *this was a good move on their part as that would have been a very high wear point. *The curve of the calf guard at the top is adequate but I feel they could have put another 1/2 inch of space there to help with a bit more flex at the lower knee area. *The one thing I love about this calf setup is that the puck doesn't skip through it. *Twice I've had shots where my timing was slightly off but I ended up trapping it in this area! * Saved! *

Bottom of boot is nicely tied together. *At first I thought that I was really not going to like the outside calf wrap being a bit tighter inward than what I am used to. *However, this has proven not to be the case. *It gives me ample room in there. *I would still prefer it more outward but I have realized that when I am down with one leg up against the post, this has allowed me to keep a tighter profile to the post and eliminate any possibility of a squeaker getting through on that outside area. *

This area of the calf is well cushioned on the inside. * At first you get an illusion that the knee is lower than the ankle but with some adjustment and break in, that feeling has subsided. *With a kneepad on, it is even more comfortable. *The velcro strap at the calf wrap doesn't faze me either way. *I use it because it is there but if it wasn't, I wouldn't really notice it all that much.

Thighrise of the pad is comfortable. *I feel it could be slightly thinner but that may have not been possible with the EPP core setup that they used on this pad. *Either way, there are no issue with how it is designed. *It does maintain it's shape well. * The knee wing is very well designed and I have always preferred the straps going through the block as they are done with the Lefevre stuff. *Thanks to Michel and Patrick finding a way to make it work! * *The soft material covering the inside knee wing is some form of combed nash. *It is designed to keep the knee on the pad and provide for a more comfortable overall feel. * As you can see with mine, I opted for the hard knee setup. *This was a mistake on my part and i'll fill you in at the end of the review on it. *It's not that it doesn't work because it does, no question. I've used a similar setup for years but on this pad, my application for it is different. *I'll explain in a bit. *The outer knee flap is for some extra protection. *I was assuming I was going to need it if I was using a thighpad but have moved out of that. *It would not be necessary when I re-order. *

I really like their lower toe bridge setup wtih the jen-pro and HD foam. *They have angle the ends of slightly to make it more wear resistant as that would be the first area to see ice with any kind of sliding movement. *You can see that they are still using the same high quality binding string to attach the pad. *I liken it really thick dental floss!!!!

Again, this is the lower calf area which is very well done. *The jen-pro keeps the wear down in this area and they nicely integrate with one another.*

Hi so ive been pretty quiet on these forums for the past couple of months as ive taken several months off hockey with a broken wrist, and overall boredom of the game and my team. Now im ready to come back and head out to help the special ed hockey at my local rink to find my skates are waaay too small. they were ccm v04s. they fit my foot pretty well though they felt alittle narrow towards the end probably due to my growth spurt. wasnt the biggest fan of the steel so i did replace them with step steel blades. What do you guys reccomend for a more butterfly goalie? i was getting a decent amount of slip outs even with the steps in them. bauer? or stick with ccm? havnt heard great things about reebok but id give them a shot. i know the best thing to do is find what fits my foot best but i was just curious if any of you guys have some skates your in love with. thanks!

Hi all, bought a new pair of Koho pants a whole back and I just can't get them broken in. It's very frustrating. Ill admit, my old pants are so old and worn in, there is no where near the amount of padding in them and they are just so comfortable. But they are at the end of their life and need to be replaced.

The new ones are so much thicker and wrapped with padding that I am finding them restrictive. The size is right, just not use to playing with that much bulk there. The material is also so much stiffer I am having a hard time bending and moving while down.

Is there anything that will help break down the material a bit, like oiling a baseball glove, or any tricks out there to get these puppies broken in quicker.

I really only play in my men's team and part of the problem is that I don't want to wear them and give up bad goals bc I'm not comfortable.

Thx
