    Default Sewing up your gear

Hey guys I was reading online about sewing up your gear and I want to know how many of you guys do it. Usually I have a tailor do it or I try it on my own if its just a rip in the palm or finger of my blocker.

I've sewn my goalie pants, stitched the palms back on my player gloves. I tried to stitch cuts in my old blocker, but it didn'y really help. The jenpro needs to be replaced.

I usually get holes in the fingers of the blocker so its usually a quick fix but the pants and sometimes jersey need stitching

I will do the minor stitch up job now and again, i went to jo-ann fabric and picked up nylon (extremely strong) thread.
And a bunch of heavy duty hooked needles. That and a pair of needlenose pliers and your good to go.
Glove palms, accassional tears. no prob.

    Cheers

The sewing awl is something every goalie should own! Unless you have a tailor or equipment manager who will fix your stuff for free, it will prove to be a very valuable tool. I have used mine to repair and modify my C/A, reinforce an area on my pads that looked like it would eventualy become a wear area, and patch holes in my gloves a number of times. Its very easy to use.

I can't sew worth a hot damn. Though conversely, my chest protector was bought from an ex-whl goalie, and he told me he cut out some protection where the arm meets the shoulder, so he could bring his arms in tighter. I can't even notice where this was done, so he did a good job of sewing it back up

Sewing is very easy with a sewing awl. Definetly recommend it if you are thinking about modding your gear. Right now I have fixed the blown seams in my pads made knee blocks and wings and currently re facing my glove.

I've been sewing up the sides of my knee brace for years. I also have made minor stitching repairs to shoulder pads etc. I did remove a block of padding from the inner leg on my goal pants. They were preventing me from getting a good seal in the butterfly.
