Thats exactly what I was using. Well the Clear coat was automotive. The base coat was just a regular White spray paint.

The cut Vinyl layer may of been the cause. I should Print a vinyl decal next time and then see if that works. I am not sure if the clear coat bonds to the vinyl and this is what caused the chipping chunks

I'm not sure there's any paint that will resist the chipping when you get hit with a puck. Maybe some kind of electrostatic paint, but even there, the force of the puck hitting the stick is going to chip it, and you'd need the right kind of material to get it to bind right.

will the decals resist a good shot? Or will they rip on impact?

If you look at my first images in the thread below, you can see the Black paddle and silver paddles are one big decal.

    GC User's Paddle designs

They have held up surprisingly well. How ever naturally the more you play the more wear your going to see then those of us who play once a week etc.

I've got vinyl on my mask which has clear coat over the top. The vinyl has been hit numerous times and hasn't torn at all. There must be some type of clear that binds to vinyl - just don't know what type would work.

Love the idea of custom painted sticks. It'd be a good way for an equipment company that doesn't pay the NHL license fee to get in by custom painting sticks with the teams logo.

Forgot to mention that I didn't paint those sticks I posted, it was Bishop Designs for Ryan Miller's Catwalk for Charity auction.
