Default Question on knee landing pad on Goalie leg pads

On two different sets of pads it seems after break-in the landing pad for my knee shifts up a full inch. Suggestions on this?

    Skate size: 10"
    Ankle-Knee: 17"
    Knee-Mid.thigh: 7"
    Total: 34"

When I wore Bauer RX6 32+1, my knee originally landed on the top edge of the landing pad. After 2 months (about 12 times use), my knee was actually landing on the ice.

My current pads Brians H-series 35+1, my knee originally landed dead center on the landing pad. After 5 months (about 30 times use), my knee has begun landing at the top edge of the landing pad, no longer dead center like it did when new.

My straps settings have remained unchanged - snug on the bottom and looser on top.

    Thoughts?

Generally this happens as the pads settle the more you play with them. This happens with almost all pads as they are played with and broken in. I pretty sure it has to do with the boot and the way it settles after being pushed down by you and by play in general. Some sink a lot. I had the same problem with the Bauer RX6's as well. It's strange that you went so high to Brian's and had the same problem being at the top after moving up 3" in size. I would have figured you'd be at the bottom of the pad and then moved to the middle of the knee lock. Every manufacturer is different and I believe it all has to do with the foam inside the pads.

Your pads were to small to begin with, the RX6 boot settles down quite a bit. That was a mistake in size from the beginning...

This sounds about the right size from the measurement you provided earlier. The Brians pad boot should hardly settle over time.

Something doesnt add up. I would suggest you ad pictures of you wearing the pads w/skates on. Sounds like you might have too much toe slack or could tweak the boot strap. I have a pair of 36+1 ZeroGs. I have an ATK of about 18 and I am dead center on the lifts, wear a size 9 skate..

    Kohomcm -

Regarding the first set of pads being too small, yes I agree which is why I had them replaced.

Regarding my current set, wouldn't a looser boot and toe tie improve the knee landing more center because it allows the pad to shift up? Just trying to understand the logic of tightening them which would bring the pad further down placing the knee higher up in the landing pad.

I will submit pics when I can.

Not necessarily, if you notice if you have a loose toe your pad hangs over the skate, thus it slides down from the knee. Especially with Brians and the funky toe leather tab thingy.

I purchased 1/2" boot risers from Sara @ PAW (Protective Athletic Wear) in an attempt to remedy my knee landing so close to the ice. The product and assistance from PAW was outstanding, very pleased with the experience and the product (image attached showing fastened to my leg pad). Unfortunately it did not move my knee back 1/2", it only moved it back 1/8" . I guess I'm stuck unless I replace them with the 1". I did test this config out on the ice, I had no performance issues regarding pad rotation, infact, I didn't even know I had the boot riser installed during game play.
