    Default leg strap conversion

Does anyone know how much it might cost to swap out nylon/clip straps for leather straps? I'm assuming it would probably cost the same if someone switched from leather to nylon so that may also be helpful. I've been looking into buying a pair of 2010 Smith pads from a buddy of mine for $250 but the straps are all nylon with plastic clips besides on the boot. Would it be worth it for me to buy these and pay extra to convert or keep shopping?

On a side note, I feel like there should be a forum solely dedicated to pad price checks. I feel like i kind of got ripped off in the past on some older model "sale" gear and I think it might be useful to be able to ask ahead of time. Obviously prices on older/used gear would be highly variable based on the condition but a ballpark estimate would be helpful. Just an idea I've been bouncing around

Depends on soft you like your pads. I get rid of mine when their not stiff enough. And on a side anyone that can afford new pads and not donating their old ones to their minor hockey system is a douche bag!!!!

    First part

It would probably be worth it if you want to switch, do you have any pictures of the pad strapping? Most likely assuming they aren't the 6000's your just unstitching and then restitching the pad.

    Second part

There should not be a forum for price checks. It takes 1 minute to do the research and look at pictures.

Um, why? Why shouldn't somebody sell their used pads to try to recoup the cost? When I buy new gear, part of my decision is that I know I'll get something back from my old gear. Why do I have to donate them?

We're a friendly bunch here, Boutette, so can we lay off the name calling?

yea, I'm not really sure what you mean, boutette. I'm a college student trying to piece together a starter set, if it weren't for people selling their used gear, I'd be screwed.

Try Cheap new and used ice hockey goalie pads, Equipment, Techniques, Goalie Info | GoaliePads.org
The site pulls together all leg pad listings on ebay.

@Boutette: We've routinely passed on our son's used gear to other kids in his youth hockey association. Typically we've sold items for pennies on the dollar to another junior goalie or just donated directly to the association. For adults though, I don't know of an actual minor hockey association to donate to. Typically, posting gear for sale is the norm. Seller recoups part of cost, buyer gets gear at minimal cost. Even my pads (32+1) would be too big for most kids until bantam (13 years or so) division. If a kid is a goalie at bantam, the parent/family has purchased gear.
