    Default Scottish's Spring League Season

Ok so I forgot to post this in the beginning but here is an update so far in the Mid point of the season. I play for Black Tusk in a 4 team 6 week Co-Ed Spring Season.

Week 1. First game, first night, first thoughts.

Black Tusk 5 Vs Armchair 6

This was quite a high paced game with us going down by 3-0 in 10 mins, then we clawed our way back to take the lead 4-3 and after that it was goal for goal really. I will say one thing though, due to the fact that its not a high level of play no one really is in a hurry to get back and defend.

    Week 2. Moving Forward

    Wedge 4 V's BlackTusk 6

Playing against this team is up and down. They only have 2 guys who can shoot and set up nice 2 on 1's on net. How ever this team only averages in the teens per game in SOG so it can be a while before play comes back down your end. We dominated them throught the game, but our main downfall that seems to be a trend is no back check, no urgency to get back to play defence, hence the 2-1's or 2-0's

    SOG Wedge 17 : Black Tusk 33

Side Note: I had to fill in for the Sproat goalie in the game before ours, so I was double dipping. This game was totally 1 sided for us (Sproat) as we were up 4-1 at end of first. Also note the the 4 goals scored were on the first 4 shots of the game. Then the 2nd period started, well atleast it did for the other team, as my team appeared not to have shown up, and registered a whopping 2 SOG in the 2nd period, with Zero defence and 4 break aways, and countless 2-0's and 2-1's we eventually ended up loosing this game 7-5.

SOG Sproat (my Team ) 21 : Armchair 32 and remember 19 of 21 were in the first period haha.

    Week 3 - Red's Revenge

Black Tusck 5 Vs Sproat 10

This was a crappy night for me, but was to be expected. The Red team are the best team in the league, they have a full roster minus 1 or 2 who can play, pass, score, and defend. The rallied up countless 2-0's and even managed to have a couple of 3-0's. Everytime I looked at my crease I saw 2 red players free and ready for puck, with either 2 of my players pinching on 1, they were waiting at the blue line or trying to skate back.

I am not whining about how its the players fault, of course its my fault that 10 goals went in, it would just be nice if I had some defence to concentrate on the single shot coming, and not the multiple options in front of net plus rebound opportunities available.

sounds like they are keeping you busy! tell your centers you want them at the crease! i guess you cant make them hustle harder but you can tell them where they need to be. good luck going forward

Learn this, then draw them a picture or show it to them. I drew this out on a dry erase. It works wonders when i remind them to think about it.

All goalies pass this on to your team... :)

Week 4 - The Mid Way Point!

    Armchair 6 - Black Tusk 2

So this is us back to the beginning, or half way. We face off against Armchair again. Our last game was very close and tit for tat in scoring. Tonights game was slightly different and was a battle of 'Tenders. I had recruited one of the young hot shot goalies for the Armchair side as their goalie pulled his hammy and is now done for the remaining games (due to old age haha). I knew this would be a tough game, given that these guys are a team of shooters, and we are a lacking team of Defenders.

Games starts off slow, with a couple of week shots on goal, then quuickly picks up. we were down 2-1 for most of the first period and I seemed to always be in the right spot, or atleast a piece of my equipment was in the right spot at the right time, with numerous desperation saves due to my pad postioning, but everything was going right for me though which was nice.

We tied the game 2-2 shortly after the 2nd and it stayed that way till the last 5 mins of the game when it all went Pete Tong. A couple of bad plays and terrible decisions led to 2 soft goals and 2 more goals followed. We lost 6-2 but despite those 4 goals I had a great game, and even won man of the match, which is my first ever as a goalie.

At least you are having fun. A lot of shots isn't good, game-wise, but it sometimes helps one become better.

Right now I love all the shots as you said more shots means I can learn from every shot I save or miss.
