This was just too amusing to not share. Tonight I was at the gas station and the guy at the pump next to me saw the little goalie mask I have hanging from my rear view mirror. This is the conversation:
Him: You like hockey?
Me: Love it. I even play.
Him: Goalie I take it?
Me: Yes sir.
Him: You've got to be mental to let someone shoot hard rubber at you going those high speeds. Especially as a chick.
Me: Yep. Just a bit. But dang, what a rush. I guess us goalies are just a different breed. *grin*
Him: (Shaking his head) Yep. Mental.

I do my best to live up to the mental/crazy goalie rep when on the ice, doing things like singing before the faceoffs. Or, even better, to someone on a breakaway. A favorite to sing: "I Want To Be Sedated" by the Ramones.
I agree, I've been called the crazy goalie by my teammates on more than a few occasions.

Ditto. I think we all have. I was just totally thrown off because this guy was pretty easy on the eyes...and as a single female I was trying to "fan my tail" a bit when he started talking to me...and then he noticed the little goalie mask and it was all over. Certifiably mental. It's no wonder I'm still single. I'm in the process of trying to get a job as a police officer AND I'm an ice hockey goalie. Men turn and run as fast as they can. The head coach of my daughter's IP team told me I was an alright guy for a goalie. :)

Have no fear young one.... There is a guy out-there who finds it hot that you pack heat and play goalie... I found one who is very easy on the eyes, likes the fact that I am intelligent and athletic....
