Had to share. We focus, rightfully so, on getting kids into hockey as players or fans. Last Sunday, my team had its own cheering section. One of the players on my team runs a facility for older folks. She brought a bus load of "friends" to watch our game. Most had never seen a hockey game. They had a great time and can't wait to come again.

Next step is getting them onto the ice![]()
There was a woman who played for one of our biggest in-state rivals, she played defense, and played tough every game. Her name is Pat Nuckols. When I first started playing my team mates mentioned that she was of a rather advanced age but I didn't believe them..but then they sent me an article that someone had written about her a few years before in USA Hockey mag (unfortunately it's no longer available at the link I have) ...and she was of an advanced age at the time of the article, she was 83 at the time! When I started playing the article was 3 years old making her 86!.....she retired from hockey this year at age 90.
She will always be an inspiration to me!
I'm with GoalieInGlasses on this one - with some encouragement and some friendly teammates they'll be hooked in no time. :)
"When I was a kid, everyone called me crazy for playing goal, but they were the ones chasing after the puck while I just let it come to me." - Ron Tugnutt
"Remember - keep your head up. Hockey players are knuckleheads. Not as much as goalies, but well...." -- K. Benson
If there would be a group of people to get these folks on the ice, it would be the gals in this league!!
We're hoping they can come again!
