Valentine's Day Massacre

by Hockey School Dropout on 02-20-2013 at 11:50 AM
It wasn't THAT bad actually. :) Feb 14 marked the 2nd anniversary of my first time in goal, and I happened to get asked to come out for the group I first started playing with. Unfortunately I played a game the night before as a skater at 10 pm, and got a bruise on my right calf from blocking a shot (kids - don't turn your back to the shot when you block it!). Needless to say, playing early morning on 5 hours sleep doesn't lend to your best hockey. :)

Anyway, I made sure to record

Lost the battle, but made gains in the war?

by Hockey School Dropout on 01-23-2013 at 01:25 PM
I played last night (my 4th toi in 5 nights!) for my league team. As an aside, I'm noticing that even though myself and the team is playing better, the other teams seem to be bringing out ringers for games against us to really pound on us as we have 1 win this season (when we had a ringer out). Doesn't make for a good time!

Anyway, I had an up and down game. I've resolved to keep battling in the net for this team, even though I know we're gonna get smoked each game. My goal for

Tournament result

by Hockey School Dropout on 10-28-2012 at 03:33 PM
Played in a charity tournament yesterday. Same one I played in last year, with mixed teams male and female. Last year with 6 months experience tending, I went 2-0-1, allowing 6 goals. This year, went 3-0-0 with only 1 goal allowed = 2 shutouts.

This year they played the games and only female players could score. Last year only 1 game was like that, so it made it a little different. Luckily, we had some fantastic female players.

The first game was an earned shutout

Downed in the shootout

by Hockey School Dropout on 06-28-2012 at 07:00 PM
Long story short: Played the first place team in our division tonight (we were in a tie for 2nd going in, 2 points back). Pretty good back and forth game, trading goals and leads. We were up 4-3 nearing the end. They pulled their goalie, and had an extra player. I saw the puck head back to the point, but there were 3 opposition players in front of me and I could not see the puck, nor the defender at the blue line. I knew he was going to shoot (when you can't see the goalie, he can't see you!)

Got shellacked tonight

by Hockey School Dropout on 05-29-2012 at 05:36 PM
Oooooh, it was ugly folks. I was playing for the Meatballs, where I'm a skater/goalie. The regular goalie was out, so I took the crease. There are 15 divisions in this league, and we've been placed (incorrectly) in div 13. The team we played tonight was moved down from div 12. So, we knew we were in for a challenge. The Meatballs have a few benders, but they all try hard - what more can you ask for?

First I had to fight a ton of traffic just to get to the arena. I knew it would
