I finally got my first win Saturday night, a game as a sub.
In Cincy there's a somewhat open facebook group for goalies, if someone needs a game covered, we post it there, and we make sure that games are covered somehow...a call out was placed for a Division 5 game...hey, my division, I can make it happen! So, I volunteered for the game and ran with it.
It wasn't pretty - at times it was downright ugly. But dammit I won. I'll take it for now.
Final score,
I've been seeing some of the commentary regarding goalies wearing glasses...Some are adamant about it never, ever happening, others have done it and had no issues, while others have not done but can see some possible problems arise.
So, I've been observing my glasses and keeping a thought going as to how they do out on the ice, and have found them a tad lacking, as they tend to fog up and I find the need to adjust them constantly at times.
Monday morning, I hit the optometrist
Ever get the feeling that your gear has acquired a personality and is rather pissed off at you?
Two Fridays ago before going on vacation I decided to hit the local drop in.
I managed to get on the ice without forgetting to put anything on. Victory!
During warmups/stretching I was making lateral pushes and wound up rubbing a skate against a post. Stood up, and right back down again. huh, odd......get off the ice, take off the skate. Well, its flat. That's nice.
On Sunday I was able to get back on the ice after 10 days off (vacation and gear issues kept me off) to stretch the muscles a bit and remember how to do this gig.
The ice had about 4 or 5 adults on the ice at any one time and about 6 or 7 kids on at all times (stick time). Since I was the only goalie for most of the time out there, I was seeing all the shots. Which is fine by me, I'm shot source ambiguous, much like my ethics. I had dressed with the adults and we had all talked about
Usually people make the "Hello World" post first, but hey, we're all goalies here, and a little strange and different by nature. I figure if I blog a bit that would help me mentally and possibly get some creative juices going in regards to gear positioning, etc etc. Hell, I may even get reasonable criticism or get an AH-HA
moment going on my technique.
