Default Ovechkin suspended three games for charging

Oh, that was smart. Mr. I-can-score-a-goal-even-when-I'm-sliding-on-my-butt didn't exercise enough control to make a solid check but rather chooses to charge. Oh well, I would like to see how well the team does during his suspension.

    I dont like that hit!
3 games is probably about right to me. I really like the way Brendan does these suspension videos. They are clear about what the incident was, what rule it broke, and what factors were taken into account that influenced the discipline. Good job!

He hit his shoulder first. Shouldn't be a 3-game suspension.

He left his feet before the hit. I agree with Werknone, 3 games seems to fit the crime.

    Are you kidding.
1st off the puck was long gone, Ovy should have peeled off instead he hit him anyway.
2nd he left his feet and launched himself into him.
Yes he didnt hit his head 1st but if he didnt leave his feet he wouldnt have hit his head at all. That + previous infractions in my mind = 3 games.

These vids are great I just wish there was some form of consistency in Shanahan's rulings. It seems like the worse hits get like 3 game suspensions and the smallest bit of head contact in a simple check gets you hammered for six. I appreciate the attempt at making the process more transparent for fans and other, but overall there's no consistency.

Previous infractions are not allowed to be a factor in this incident according to the rules, yet somehow Shanaban still mentioned them in his video.

Well said. Shanny also mentioned that it didn't matter if he didn't hit the head first, but according to the NHL's head shot rule, it DOES matter if it's targeted AND the principal point of contact, which it wasn't. Effing ridiculous. And the hypocrisy of Ovy getting 3 games and Michalek getting none for a hit to the back of the head is ridiculous, too.

I'm glad Ovy declined the all star game. Eff the NHL and Shanny.
