Damn, someone beat me to posting this! So glad I set the PVR to record this game. Unreal performance, and even more so when you consider that Chicago was up 2-0 just over a minute into the second period. According to the story on the TSN website, it's the first 8 point game in the NHL since Mario did it on December 31, 1988! Coming into the game, Gagner only had 5 goals and 22 points on the season - almost doubled his goal total for the year!

Hell of a performance, and after it was all over, he was introduced as the first, second and third star of the game.

So the Oilers took down the Red Wings in a shootout last night, and Gagner had himself a bit of an encore. The Oilers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, and Gagner was in on ALL 3 of those ones too. When you take his 8 point game into account, he was a part of 11 consecutive Oilers goals - 6 goals, 5 assists - all in the span of 3 periods.

He was on the ice when the Oilers tied it up late, but didn't get a point on the play, ending his streak. He would, however, go on to score in the shootout, for what it's worth.
