    Default Workout Diary

I wanted to create this thread as a motivator to keep working out. Back when I played baseball there were a bunch of us who began working out "together" by detailing online what we were doing, and it kept some of us motivated. I'd also like to try detailing what I'm doing, if it's working, the results, and perhaps some of you will be motivated to do the same.

    So to start...

Anyone else tried P90X? I got it like a year and a half ago, and I've been doing it on and off. Usually I start, it lasts a week or two, and then I stop. Sometimes I stopped due to too much pain, other times I stopped due to my neighbor (who was doing it with me) started canceling on me, and admittedly my motivation goes down, too.

I decided I need to start losing weight and I'd also like to bulk up at the same time. So on Monday for lunch I did the first CD. I was hoping to be able to do P90X on non-game days.. something around:

    (This is this week...)
    Monday: P90X Chest and Back
    Tuesday: P90X Polymetrics
    Wednesday: Game
    Thursday: Game
    Friday: P90X Arms and Shoulders
    Saturday: P90X Cardio or Yoga
Sunday: P90X Legs and Back -or- off day

..something like that. I've been debating whether, on game days or even on workout days, to go for a short run or walk, but I'm afraid of screwing up my foot again like I did last time I started running. (Apparently I run funny and need a special shoe last so it won't hurt.) So I haven't decided that just yet.

To bulk up I'm finally using some supplements I bought a few months ago when I was doing the program. I'm trying to keep on the general schedule of:

    (per day)
Muscle Milk (protein) 1 scoop 2x-3x
OxyElite Pro (thermogenic fat burner and keeps me from snacking) 1 pill 3x
PRIME (muscle building supplement) 2 pills 3x
PowerFULL (GH stimulator) 1 pill 1x
    Jack3d (workout booster) 1 scoop 1x preworkout
and sometimes I'll take a multivitamin and fish oil pill

So I worked out Monday on P90X chest and back and did the above supplements. Problem is even two days later I still hurt so badly it's difficult to pick up my (toddler/infant) kids! I'm attributing it to taking the Jack3d, which allows you to do more during your workout than you normally can. For example, to be perfectly honest, I can normally only do like 2-3 real pushups or 8-14 knee pushups (combination of very weak arms and weirdly constructed shoulders). My first time around in the workout I did 8. That's already double what I can usually do. I didn't really notice any other immediate gains during the other non-pushup workouts, but that's half because I don't have a pull up bar and so I was using a noisy weight machine, and I only have free weights up to 35 lbs, and I could easily do 50+ lbs on some of the exercises.

Suffice it to say, I didn't work out yesterday as I had hoped.. simply hurt too badly. I've continued the supplements and trying to eat very healthily (high protein, some carbs, low calories.. some weird attempt at finding the balance between losing fat and putting on muscle), but admittedly I don't know that I'm doing everything correctly. Today's a game day so I'm not working out, and honestly I'm not sure if I would today anyway since my arms/chest still hurt so badly. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be terrible in today's game, though since I'm a skater on this team it'll warm me up and get things moving again for tomorrow's game where I play goalie.

Anyway, feel free to give insights, motivation, detail your own workouts, ask questions, etc. I'd like to try to get a bunch of us motivated to get healthier and the more motivation and knowledge we can give each other the better we can do.

There's your problem. You took 1 scroop instead of 1 scoop of Jack3d. It's all in the details.

Well, I'm trying to lose weight. So far, I've lost a bit over 4 pounds, but that's in over two months. I've been trying to lose weight since January but was staying the same for five months. I'm drinking a lot more water during the day so that's helping. I'm eating at night so that's my main crux... I love snacks.
Anyways, I started at about 190 pounds. So, I am hoping to lose 25 pounds but 20 pounds would be as good, or about 9 to 11 kg.
I just either run (really jogging) or work out at a gym.
    I don't take any supplements, just a multi-vitamin.

How tall are you? 25 lbs seems like a lot if you're already at 190.

I'm 5'11" and float between 200-210. Ballooned up to 217 at one point back in December, but I actually ended up losing 19 lbs in three weeks using OxyElite Pro and not eating more than like 100 carbs per day (my doctor said, "Hey, if it's working and you don't feel bad, keep with it."). The transformation was pretty incredible. Unfortunately I can't seem to break the 197 plateau no matter what I do, but there's still a lot of fat that can come off. I know I have a lot of muscle that weighs a lot given my leg strength, but it's embarrassing how weak my arms can be. Just trying to turn the stomach fat into upper body strength.. easier said than done, of course.

All in all my main goal is to lose like 30 lbs and get down to like 175-180, if I can.

    Whoops! Fixed.

Geeze, you must be really muscular or something then or else your body fat percentage is wrong. At my most muscular I was like 5'9" and 155.. huge legs, but nothing else. Which is why I'm trying to convert all the fat I've since put on into upper body strength.

No doubt it adds up.. but on supplementreviews.com they have some [accurate] price comparison ads that helps you find the best deals. I'd say for all of the supplements above it was like $100-$120. Not too bad if you look around for the deals.

I did P90x with a bunch of people and it works great, I just had to stop cause some of it is medium-high impact stuff that with my shoulder I couldn't do. I did continue to do yoga and abs. I think a bunch of the guys at the rink I'm playing at are starting the P90x challenge. Should be cool. I might join. I'm 5'10" and 190lbs. I ballooned up to 210 with some sympathy weight thru my wife's two pregnancies but ended up losing 20lbs via hockey and working out. I have noticed its been harder to lose weight after that 20lbs.

You should definitely do it, man! I'm in the same boat where my shoulder (that needs PT) can't do some things as well as I wish, but I'm trying to work through it. Maybe if I strengthen it it'll be less effed up. Hopefully, anyhow.

So three days later I still hurt like hell. Had a game last night (in which our very own 'mash' played great) and interestingly didn't feel the hurt. But it didn't take more than an hour after the game for every bit of the strains to come back.. was difficult to even roll over in bed this morning. I have a game tonight as a goalie, and my one leg is still a bit wonky, though considering I didn't feel it much last night, I'm hoping I'll be fine. Regardless of how I feel tomorrow I plan on working out, though I don't know if I'll do P90X arms and back or plyometrics yet.. depends on how the arms feel.

Still on the supplements and doing well. Don't feel anything weird there. Already lost like 4-6 lbs (the other day I weighed in at like 209 and this morning I was 203), so something -- be it the exercising, games, supplements, or a combination of the three -- is working.
