I use the Russian Boxes with players and goalie, I have trained on them for a long time. They are one of the best tools to use for hockey players because it really focuses on skating specific muscles that flat-surface exercises simply don't.

I'm sure one can be made with 2x4s and 3/4" ply on the cheap.

My dad built me some for out at the lake a few years back. No weights out there so I'd run and do plyos. Build to separate boxes, that way you can easily adjust the distance between them depending on how far you want to jump.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Building two platforms with an adjustable beam in between them so they dont increase in distance as they are in use.

The adjustable beam is a good idea. Mine are just two separate, I put one against a wall and sand bags on the bottom of the other and they don't move at all.
