    Default Thigh pain

Not sure how to describe this but here goes.
Just new to goaltending and having some pain.
I feel it if im sitting on my knees stretched out as far as possible. When i try to get back up after the stretch i feel pain kind of in the aterior groin area, doesnt feel like a groin though.
Just wondering if i should rest it, or continue with my new stretching routine?

You're sore. Goaltending works a lot of areas that aren't typically worked out. We have an EXCELLENT personal trainer/conditioner that posts on these forums. I'd look up her threads found here: http://www.goaliecrease.net/showthre...ining-question! and ask her directly. She's very kind and will get to you as quickly as is possible with a very good explanation of what's going on and how to fix it.

    Good luck!

    Hi Werknone,

Could you describe your stretching positon a little better so I can understand? Are you sitting on your heels with your knees bent? Then are you bending forward or laying your body back over your feet? How long does the pain last? Do you ever feel it at other times? Let me know and maybe I can give you some advice.
    Cheers,
    Maria

So its when you do your standard groin stretches. Im on my knees and my hands with my knee bent at aprox 90 degrees. Then i try to go as low as i can and push my butt back. After i am done the stretch when im trying to get back up i feel the pain. I guess it would be in the muscles that are responsible for bringing you up out of that position. I dont know the terminology. Just not sure whether to stop or keep going with my stretching routine. Keep in mind im 33 and have been doing little to no phisical activity for several years. On a bright note it did feel better today.

Okay, I understand what you are saying. It sounds to me like you may possibly be having some hip impingement - you can read more about it here:
    Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome

I will give you a couple of tips - try changing the width of the stretch - move your knees a little closer together or a little further apart to see if that helps. Secondly, make sure when you do that stretch that you do not round your lower back - only go as far back as you can without rounding your lower back at all - this keeps your stretch in the hip.

If you make these modifications and continue to build that stretch in a painfree range, you may find that your flexibility gradually increases and the pain goes away - this tells you that it was just a flexibility issue requiring some patience. Just do not force any stretch into a painful range.

That is where I would start.
    Cheers,
    Maria

Thanks for the info. It is to tempting to force oneself, but i want to be able to do this for many years to come so i will follow your advice.
Good tip about the back roundness, im sure i was doing that.
    Thanks again.

Now now Maria. I know you're extremely eager to win the goaltending videos by making more posts but if you keep making short posts I'll have to start deleting! Just kidding. You're an indispensable tool to us goaltenders and every word you say is as important as the last.
