That's exactly how I have been taught to have my stick. It will ramp up, and hit me in the chest for a basket catch. Or up in to the netting. Only once has it ever caused a problem, when the guy flubbed on his shot and it came in at me at about 1/4 speed. It rolled up over my shoulder and in. Rare occurrence.

Interesting... I've been taught to steer the shot to the side with the stick. I guess some coaches are different. Cool pic tho
If you can steer the shot to the side then you can do that, but in this case the shot was directly on centre.

Personally, I would still keep the stick up because I have big trouble closing the 5 hole but it looks like nothing can squeeze through your five hole. I'm still not to sure about the angle of the stick and deflecting the puck like that but if it works for you, then more power to you
How are you going to keep the stick up whilst keeping that blocker arm down in a blocking manner?

Use this for example, look at the holes just above both pads. If the shot is in close it's easy to get it over those pads. If your arms are dropped in a block it's impossible for it to squeak through.
This video is bad cause the guy over slides every time, but the principal and form is the same.
Here's another short one of a guy with a less ability. Still arms are down, and stick is out front.
There is no real right way, but it's taught by a few coaches that like the Montreal Butterfly Style.

i have the problem of keeping the blade of my stick too flat and it opens up a hole between my body and my blocker and the puck always seems to find its way in.
I use a 23" stick due to impulsive buying so my blocker is close enough to my body that I can react and get my blocker arm in tight if needed. I do slant my stick, but not to that extent
ya, i can see the dangers either way. i guess I gotta find what works for me.
