Ugh. I seriously need to work on that. It's like my glove hand is always on vacation somewhere sunny and warm drinking a mai tai on the beach whenever a puck flys at my head. LOL I took two slap shots to the melon last night. One hit my cage and the other hit the very top of my cage right at my forehead. For whatever reason I NEVER see the ones that actually hit coming at my head. At least I made the saves....

It is quite amusing though when everybody yells STOP after you get creamed in the melon. Then they all stand around you like you're an animal at the zoo waiting for you either to pass out or start speaking Swahili because your brain got rattled so bad. Oh, and let's not forget about the guy who thinks it's "funny" to skate up to you and put his finger in front of your face to see if you're "tracking" or have a concussion. I hate that guy....and there's always at LEAST one.

Maybe because you took too many shots to the head haha jk

How do you position your glove QC? Do you use fingers up technique? I've started using that technique this year and I've found that I am making a lot more glove hand saves as opposed to having my glove out at the side. I'm sure that a lot of guys on here will agree with me on this. It really helps your game.

HAHA! Yeah, I have taken quite a few shots to the head over the past 20 years of playing goalie...maybe I should go get my melon checked to see if there's anything still up there that resembles a functioning brain or if it's just a bunch of marbles rolling around.

I've recently been concentrating on using the fingers up technique. I've always had a pretty fast glove and have yet to see how I'm any faster with fingers up than I was with my glove out to the side as I've always had it since day one but eventually I hope I am. After reviewing some video recently I realized that I need to place my glove out further in front of me with with the fingers up position instead of back aligned with my shoulder. Hopefully that will help once I get that under control.

Teaching an old dog new tricks kinda sucks. LOL

Might not be a bad idea to get that noggin' checked out QC!

It seems like it would be a little uncomfortable having your glove back aligned with your shoulder. Try it out the other way and I bet it will work/feel a lot better for you.

I can't find the video of it, but if anyone saw the Sweden-Finland semi-final at the World Juniors last night... Johan Gustafsson literally made a header save. He'd already dropped to the butterfly, and he wasn't going to get an arm on the puck, so he intentionally throws his head into the path of the puck, and heads the puck to the corner! Was quite impressive to watch, and funny to hear the play-by-play guys react to the stop.

Tried doing that in ball hockey in the summer as well as ice hockey... just ended up deflecting into my net haha maybe I need to practice my soccer skills?

whatever you do, don't lift your head to expose a neck shot or flinch and turn your head...straight on shots rarely hurt, they just make noise but ones off the side of the melon are like getting slapped in the squash
