yes but you dont make any sense DaHockeyWall.....if the net is not behind you (centered in the net with imaginary line from puck through belly button to middle goalline) then what are you protecting??? where are goals scored. The net is what you are trying to stop pucks from going into. So give it some thought.
The only other thing i can think of is that we are arguing the same point just in a different way of wording things. And you don't want to acknowledge it.. the net is important and you are brushing it off as having no use being behind us..
No, DaHockeyWall said the "center of the crossbar", not the net.
If you think about it, as you move your way around the crease as the offensive team is working the puck around your zone, you are relying on forward visual cues to know where you are. There is a starting point before all the action begins. You as the goalie, might map yourself starting deep in the crease or at the top of the crease. This is why knowing where the center of the crossbar is not what you rely on. Then, as the puck moves around, you can lose your internal GPS location and leave a pretty sad opening for the offense to shoot at.
Just as an example, I've attached a picture with three different shooter positions. As you look at each one, the shooter is down farther in your zone. So, the less important it is knowing where the center of the crossbar is. In example 3, knowing where the center of the crossbar is completely moot. You are sensing your location off of the left post.
Just to note, I'm not trying to slam Temple for having an idea. I am going to give an honest point of view as to why the idea or aspects of the idea are flawed.
