A goalie must have one overriding quality-- he must want to be a goalie. - Emile Francis
Nobody understands the position who hasn't played it. Hockey is a team game, but for a goalie, it's more like an individual sport. - John Garrett
Thats the way i was taught to hold my glove. Ive tried thumb up for a while but i find this works better. Thats a great video, i wish it was longer!

I try to learn from watching the pros. Then, when I get on the ice to work on my trapper or whatever, it ends up being an entire ice session of getting no shots on the trapper except one weak shot.

Just some advice for all that have fingers up.. don't do it :) have anyone on your team take a hard shot above the pad (on the glove side) but below the glove. You will NEVER make that save. It your using 6 O'Clock positioning, for the shots that go high, you just shrug your shoulder. Varlys glove is in the right hand positioning, but its a bit high up.

I agree. Personally i keep mine just a bit lower as well. When i go down into my butterfly i like to bring my glove and blocker down all the way just above my pads. That way i can block those sneaky spots just above the pads. Since i have been doing that i find people dont take many shots on me there anymore. Also i believe in the concept that you have only one possible direction to move you arms and thats up, which should make the decision quicker.
I suppose that makes sense. I will test that theory...
